Drag and Drop For VSX_2019 Not working

Hello and thanks in advance for any help given. Is it just me or does any one else have this Issue. When I try to drag and drop any type of file being either Video, pic or sound file into Vs2019 nothing happens. I have to go to file and then insert media to timeline, or right click and insert. This function works fine in Vs 2018 and earlier versions but not in vs2019. I have tried to reinstall and also on another computer and it still will not work.

Hi
Just tried this using Video and Images, dragging from Windows Explorer, no problems to drop to timeline or library
What version of the program are you using?
Do Help Check for Updates just to make sure

Strange that it is the same on another pc, I assume you did a new install to test that.
Re-installing VS should download the latest versions

when you re-installed did you remove personal data when uninstalling, if no try resetting the program by renaming the 22.0 folder to 22.0_old
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\22.0
Running the program will recreate that folder

Your post is quite vague on exactly what you are doing.
From where are you dragging? Where are you dropping? Please give a more detailed description of your steps.

Thanks Lata, I tried your suggestion, but it was not the solution. As to what I am doing is this.

1. Open vs 2019, if it opens the first time as it tends to take 2 or three attempts to open. (Known problem acknowledged by Corel)
2. Open windows 10 pro file explorer to where my wma., avi., mp4., mov., jpg., or any other file acceptable to VideoStudio is and then one at a time choose the one I want and drag it to vs2019 to the timeline. If I release the file into the timeline or even wait awhile before releasing to see if it accepts the file nothing happens, not even an error message. (This is not an issue in any other version of VS.

I don't know what problem Corel is acknowledging since I don't have a problem opening Vs 2019. It opens on the 1st attempt every time.
Also I have no problem dragging/dropping any media file to the timeline using Windows File Explorer.

Of course I am not using W10.

I *do* have Windows 10, but I also have no trouble dragging and dropping in VS 2019. I also have no trouble opening the program first time, every time...

I found out why it was not working on support site. here is the copy and pasted answer.
This is a windows 10 Pro Issue that will cause this issue.

A program running in administrator mode will not be able to receive drag and drops from a program not running as admin, – Yisroel Tech Jan 30 '17 at 3:14

Apologies, yes we are aware that problems are experienced by some users and not others, to be honest can happen a lot and is very frustrating.

But this particular issue has not been reported by anyone else as far as I am aware certainly not on the forum
So if you received this information from Corel Support can you provide details, I have searched the Corel Knowledge base but so far no hits, although searching there can be a pain.

I also want to jump back in here. I happen to have a computer which runs Win 10 Pro -- my only one, in fact. It is updated to Win 10 1903. I have spent a few hours just installing VS 2019 for the first time on it. It's the latest version of that too i.e. with updates.

And I want to report that I had absolutely no trouble at all dragging and dropping a file into it. Worked first time... And no, I have not altered anything at all about Admin or anything else. I am the only user of the computer, so I guess I am Admin, but I have not set VS 2019 to open with Admin status.

I'm wondering, though, how you mean drag and drop. Are you dropping on the desktop icon for VS 2019? Or do you have VS 2019 open first then drag and drop onto it? Mind you, when I drag and drop onto the desktop VS 2019 icon, it opens the program with the video appearing in the timeline. And with an mpeg-4 video, I even receive the customary message asking if I want to have the project properties match those of the video.

I also can only support Trevor's statement about Corel's apparent belief that there are quite a few users who have difficulty opening it the first time. We get quite a few complaints here about various failings in programs, including VS 2019. But like Trevor, I can't recall even one which has complained about the number of attempts they have to make to even open the program.

I am here to solve an issue not start a war of words.

In early April of 2019, Oz from Corel Ottawa (Austin) logged onto my computer with the hanging on startup issue being one of the topics we talked about. He knew about the issue and swapped out a .dll file but that did not work and told me it would be addressed in the sp3 update to be released soon as many users where experiencing this issue. That update did not fix the hanging on startup. I find it kind of funny Ken that you say you have not heard of this issue when you have been involved in one of the threads with others that have this problem on June 17. of this year. (Videostudio will not start after Windows update). Kind of like the standard response from Corel support when one calls on any issue and Corel say’s we have never heard of this issue. I have had this issue Since Vs 2019 was released and still have this issue along with others. I am not here to make up issues or the time to proof to you or others I have an issue, I am here to try to get help and solve a problem with Vs-2019, not protect Corel’s Dwindling reputation with their Programs and support policies. It used to be this forum was for users to help users not just reply with denial responses, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem!

Let’s try to save Corel not protect them.

If Austin has been involved I doubt we can do much better.
When I said “But this particular issue has not been reported by anyone else as far as I am aware” I was referring to your original post Drag and Drop and I still stand by that, yes I do drag and drop from windows explorer to the library and the timelines, not every time usually I right click for options.

Starting the program
I have had some problems caused by the contents of the VSPTemplate, these are instant project templates.
This really depends on whether you work with Instant Projects.
If you have templates from earlier versions you could have issues running Video Studio

Try renaming that folder to VSPTemplate_ old
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate

If you have a Contents folder, rename that as well
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPContent

Then rename 22.0 to 22.0 old to reset the program
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\22.0
Running the program will general a new 22.0 folder

Oh before you start this, if you need your library “as is” then first Export the library to create a copy, if that option works for you.

The issue that many have had in the past after a Windows update was that VS wouldn't start period while you complained that "Open vs 2019, if it opens the first time as it tends to take 2 or three attempts to open". Not starting at all and taking several attempts before starting are not the same thing.

This is not a Win 10 Pro issue rather it is exactly how Win 10 security model is designed to function, i.e. lower privilege processes can’t interfere with higher privilege processes in order to prevent potential elevation of privilege attacks. Hence for that reason, it is a poor security practice to run any application as administrator unless you know why you're doing it and what effect it may have. In any event you didn't mention that you used "Run as administrator" when starting VS.

This is not a forum run by Corel support so people respond based on their experience with the product, i.e. if they aren't experiencing your issue then they tend to report it as such.
