Effects Manager

The effect manager solves one of the biggest problem of older version of Mediastudio..
With MSP 7, when using a filter, in the filter preview window you see the effect of that filter.. but applied to the original footage. If you apply two or more filter.. you can only "guess" what will be the result..

Now in MSP 8, the problem is not only solved, but you can also "hide" a filter with a mouse click. Well done Ulead
Good to be reading about all of these improvements!

Do we have control over the order in which the filters are applied? That is, are the filters applied in order, top to bottom and are there now buttons to change the application order?

Maybe I don't know how to use MSP7 well enough yet ... For example, I want to make sure that Noise Reduction is applied before Unsharp Mask. If applied in the other order, the results are quite different (and bad). Is there a way to enforce that today? If not, does the MSP 8 beta have it?

Has the 'granularity' of the filters been improved? Lots of audio and video filters in MSP 7 have too few acceptable values and a big jump in effect between values, e.g., audio noise reduction. Also, we're missing all kinds of 'basic' filters (like - eliminate AC hum - or better, a particular Hz range).

Thanks!
Karl

PS If I download the beta, will it interfere with my existing MSP 7 settings, or can it live gracefully alongside? Any problems for you?

1. MSPro's ALWAYS provided control over the order of video filter application!!

Either apply them in the order required OR just enter the video filter list (context menu/video filters) and drag their names into the order you wan't 'em applied in;

Simple, yes?

In MSPro 8 you can either use this same dialog (it's a legacy feature) or you can use up/down arrows in the Effects Manager to arrange them to the order of your choosing.

2. we're working on 'em.

3. I have the public beta installed in my main bootup with MSPro 7.3 and have seen no ill effects. That said I did both set a restore point and Ghost that partition just in case, but then I'm the careful type.

Umm, Terry, when it comes to Vegas, I would have to 100% disagree with you.

Audio has always been an after-thought with MSP.

Shame that one has to export the audio to another program to do really serious audio work. And then, how does one export dolby surround sound to an external software?

By the way, I like MSP much better than Vegas especially version 8 but I do wish you would keep the facts straight.

Yes, simple! Thanks, Terry. I really did read the manual and would never have guessed both (a) that the order was obeyed or (b) that the filter order could be rearranged by dragging.

(I wouldn't have guessed the tip from this forum about copying keyframe filter settings from one keyframe to another via copy/paste either ... saved me tons of time. Makes me wonder what else is in there that isn't documented well or at all...)

I sort of expected 'move up' / 'move down' arrows/buttons as in so-called 'windows standard' applications. But, hey, this is fine. The buttons in MSP 8 will be a good usability addition, but the ability to fine-tune filter settings based on the effects of the other filters will be fantastic. That alone will be worth the upgrade to me.

Thanks a lot for all of the answers, Terry!
