Thank you. I follow your directions but modified: if I insert Invert Selection, promote background to a layer, I can delete what surrounds the moon. But it's not obvious. I still think the Custom Selection should be able to size one's selection to a circle, an ellipse, a polygon or an arrow. The case will not always be as simple as selecting a full moon.lata wrote:Hiehume wrote:Non-rectangular Selection for Custom selection. I would like to select a full moon. Unfortunately, the photograph that looks best has craters on one edge, spoiling the perfectly round effet. The Magic Wand tool followed by Delete leaves one edge jagged. So, I need a round selection. I am simply not skilled enough to use the Selection tool, set to Circle, to select a round image of the full moon. I can measure the edges and set the Custom selection to those, but it selects a square selection. I want a round one. When I select a circle that approximates the Moon, and use that as a default (as in "Use current selection as default") it still makes a square.
I never noticed this before because I was always selecting squares and rectangles. Now, however, I need a circle.
Not sure I fully understand but what happens if…………
1 / you use the Ellipse tool, can be set to draw a circle, creates a vector layer.
2 / now use the Pick Tool to resize and position the circle
3 / assuming the circle has a suitable contrasting colour you can select using the Magic wand to select
4 / turn of the circle vector layer, selection will remain over background.

Hi friend, I thought to rotate a selection one should have an option for that rotation within the selection tool rather than have to pick a different tool to achieve it or at least a tool tip when you hover over the selection tool saying to rotate "pick" the pick tool after selecting

File->Import a set of files into a Layer stack within one document.
There are scripts to do this (and even a capability within the Python library PSPUtils.py), but:
* a straightforward copy/paste from a Document-2 into a Document-1 layer results in the new Doc-2 based layer being centered (if it does not have the same opacity dimensions of Doc-1)
* using the method recommended in this forum (Select All in target Doc-1 document, select all in Doc-2, Edit->Paste Into Selection in Doc-1 does not work reliably, often resulting in "That commend will not work in this context.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Should have a simple built in way to load a bunch of documents into a layer stack

Enhance Refine Brush.
. There is no refine brush on magic wand tool bar.
. Refine brush outline color change for B/W preview.

After that toggle 'Edit Selection' and with the Pick Tool, you can now resize and move the circle.ehume wrote:I am simply not skilled enough to use the Selection tool, set to Circle, to select a round image of the full moon.

But it is more steps than are necessary; as usual with PSP; there is a way to do it -- there is a way to do most anything -- but the means are obscure. I still think that being able to select a shape type when using a custom selection would be an appropriate improvement in PSP. After all, one can choose shapes with a mouse; why not with custom selections?

Lock the toolbars
Import settings (chosen settings perhaps) when updating
now it's pain in the *** to see that all the selection, brushes, cropsizes, button placements etc. are missing..
In the HDR merge tool,
why can't you just drag and drop images from explorer?
Have any of the developers actually worked with merging photos when you have 600 photos from one set and try to select set of 3 with that lousy selector ?
(btw. I'm using multiple displays, like all the profs.)

Re: [Sticky] -- Wish List for PSP 2021
PSP is my daily bread since 1992. I use it professionally and private, nowadays for texturing virtual worlds and in web design. I'm still using PSP 2019, since the last update wasn't attractive enough paying for.
My wishes are:
- Feature to disable all ads (still getting PSP 2020 ads without a checkbox to disable it)
- Settings for messages and ads should be moved into the main Preferences/Settings window.
- Fixing and improving the switch of UI language, without the need of PSP restart and destroying of entire workspace (required while making tutorials and for talking to other PSP users)
- Improving rendering performance
- Better and more vector manipulating tools
- More creative and realistic effects, some of the existing effects could be improved massively
- Bringing back the old basic crop tool as option
- Generators for textures, materials and normal maps
- Grouping of guides and toggling those groups
- One combined export window for web formats (PNG, JPEG, JPEG2000, WebP), with the format stored in custom presets, so we can export faster into target format depending on the project we are working on. The format settings can be grouped into tabs.
- Full SVG support
- Fixing the bugs and issues I already reported (I don't report anymore because Corel support was very rude to me)
- Finally, Corel should give up developing PSP and publish the code under an open-source licence. Since Corel took over from Jasc, PSP is getting worse update by update, the changes made are mostly cosmetic.

Re: [Sticky] -- Wish List for PSP 2021
I'm a long time user of PSP (since version 5 IIRC) but a fairly infrequent updater, perhaps four times in all. Currently I am using X9 and have recently been looking at 2020 to see if it has anything to justify the disruption of an upgrade for me. However the new features all seem to be geared towards editing photos, while I mainly use the program for creating skins for a flight sim. So I guess I won't be upgrading this year either, but I figured I'd add a few wishes in here for possible inclusion in next year's version. If any of these have been added to PSP 2020 and I have missed it in the documentation then please let me know.
In older versions of PSP I could place my mouse cursor over any point of the image and then use my mouse wheel to zoom in to that point precisely, even right into a corner. This facility disappeared when I upgraded to X9 and even after several years I miss it all the time. X9 zooms in to a point some way away from where I want to view and will not zoom into a corner at all. Please bring back the old mouse zoom method, at least as an option.
I would like the ability to save as a 32-bit bmp. Currently I can only save as a 24-bit bmp and so I have to export this to Gimp, add an alpha channel and save it again there. A minor annoyance compared to the mouse zoom, but I'd still upgrade if this was added.
In Substance Painter I can add a blur filter which lets me blur a layer non-destructively and edit the amount of blur later with a slider. As far as I can tell there is no way to do this in PSP and I'd find this a useful enough feature that I'd upgrade to get it.
A built-in normal map generator would be nice.
I have a lot of preset colours on my palette and it sometimes takes a few seconds to find the exact one I want. So it would be handy if there was some way to break the palette up into groups of swatches by adding headed separators.

Add full support for JPEG2000. Currently PSP only supports 8 bits color depth.
Add support for JPEG XR.

Re: [Sticky] -- Wish List for PSP 2021
1) Masks layer that supports vector objects
1.5) Allow the clone tool to have a mode where it will do a direct pixel-for-pixel replace from the source (like it used to do in older PSP versions) rather than trying to do some 'smart' similar-pixel-detection. Sort of like how we have a Background Eraser, and a regular eraser, we should have the current cloning tool, and the legacy cloning tool. Currently, it's too unpredictable so I don't use it anymore.
2) Create a luminance mask based on a single layer (not just the image as a whole)
3) Make Pic-to-Painting a capability that can be batch-processed to run in silent mode
4) Mesh warping capability local to an object, (not on the entire image)
5) Export vector graphics as SVG
6) Color-depth reduction as an 'Effect' (doesn't actually change the color depth, but modifies the pixels as if it did). In this way, this effect can be applied to layers rather than the whole image. Similar to how dropping saturation to 0 can be performed on a single layer, but greyscaling affects the whole image.
7) There are AI source code out there that can colorize a BW photo rather effectively. Similar to Pic-to-Painting, this would be a 1-Click capability that PSP users would probably appreciate. If this is implemented similar to Pic-to-Painting see item 3.
8 ) Ability to map a gradient material to luminance on an image (perhaps this is an enhanced flood-fill feature)
9) Make art-media brushes more responsive
10) Add more adjustments to Adjustment Layers
11) Enable layer styles on layer groups
12) In the toolbars, if a slider is disabled (which isn't very obvious) and a user tries to click and drag on it, it has the effect of re-positioning the toolbar. Clicking and dragging on a disabled slider should have no effect.

I wish that they would focus on the process. The sequence of operations that would deliver a clearly defined result. That this process would be supported by help content that is more than a matching of a search word in the many paragraphs of help. If people actually could know how to do things with current functionality they would double sales because people would spread the word of their success. I would be pleased to discuss this with any developer. I am a retired senior software quality engineer.

one thing I would like to see added is a way for Plugin's to be added as a tool bar, I often use more than one plugin when I edit a photo and always having to go to the effects menu then select plugin's and then the group and then finally the plugin that I want to use is bothersome, allowing me to build a tool bar that I could switch between plugin's would really be helpful

Totally agree. This has been an issue for some time now. It is probably not possible to change, as the basic program template would require a complete new development. Worth asking though.....arturox wrote:The tool size sliders and others are far, far too small in height , here they show as .75 of a mm. ========
They need to be made made at least double that, if not tripple.
