Cannot resize or move Paintshop Pro application window

Post by adelphikos »

I'm trying PSP 2020...

The windows 'restore' icon in the upper right corner is disabled. https://i.imgur.com/76GTW9d.png

It isn't really disabled, since (sometimes) I can access the option with alt-space. Some times I cannot use alt-space, but doing something like resizing with the lower right three-dot-triangle seems to re-enable the alt-space option.

I am also unable to manipulate the window using the title bar (double click the title bar to maximize, drag title bar to move window, etc.)

Essentially the windows interface seems extremely buggy and this is a brand new installation.

How can I get the application window interface to work properly?

Are you using a trial version of PSP 2020 or the full (bought) version? All I can say is that my full version works perfectly -- both the resize button (active) and double clicking the title bar.

Though it may sound illogical in a new installation, you could try resetting the program: hold down the Shift key when you double click the desktop PSP icon. You will be asked if you want to reset.

You might also want to check whether you are in the Complete or Essentials workspace. Right click on the screen and select 'Workspace' then select Complete. Does this activate the resize button?

I have same issue and have the full version PSP 2020 Ultimate . It was working fine then had the following issue. After using the program to save my screenshots it worked fine, then if I closed the program It would not open again unless I rebooted my computer. three days ago I got the issue with not being able to resize or move my application window. It goes to full size of monitor which is 32 inches and I cannot get the toolbars to open at top Corel has come to assist but all the links I clicked to fix it made it worse. Hopefully there is a fix. It seemed ok until the last update but not sure it was the update that has done this damage. Also my materials window does not work right

Time to reset the program, I think. With PSP closed, hold down the Shift key then click on the PSP desktop icon to open it. You should get a message asking if you want to reset the program to its factory defaults. Say OK. Hopefully, this should correct your problems.

Make sure you save any customized workspace you have constructed since otherwise it will be lost in the reset.

The OP has PSP in the Photography workspace which is optimised to work at full screen so the Restore Down / Maximise button is disabled.

Right click in the workspace and choose Workspace > Complete

I think the Photography workspace is useless and just adds more bloat to the program possibly slowing it down a little as well.

Couldn't agree more. It's not a 'Photography' mode it is 'beginner' mode or more accurately 'you could have saved the money and used the Windows freebie' mode.

"Photos" in W10 does basic manipulation (crop, straighten, tint, brightness, saturation, clarity...)

I'm an old hand with PSP 3 - 7. I'm looking to upgrade to get HEIC file support.

Just downloaded the Trial Version and man it is different/bloated! Takes at least 10x longer to load.

Anyway, you are using the default touch compatible stupid phone mode. To get a real Windows UI close and relaunch the program then select 'Essentials' or 'Complete' for the workspace. (I'm taking 'complete' for a spin.....)

Is there some way to set and forget this? I'm really not into waiting 10 second for it to start then have to fart around and "Start Exploring" before I can get to work!

Welcome to the forum.

Right click in some open space on screen. You should get a dropdown menu, and it will include an entry for "Workspace". Choose Complete. It should now change to the Complete workspace, and in future, if you haven't changed it to anything else, it will always reopen in the Complete workspace.

I just recently installed PaintShop Pro 2023 Ultimate, and was subjected to the "full screen" issue.

Thank you for the solution...still the same for 2023.

Thank you to hartpaul for the info about the (default) PSP 2023 Photo workspace!!! I was shocked to be unable to resize the PSP window upon installing PSP 2023.

Are there are surprising new defaults?
