Corel stops support of versions older than PSP 2018

Post by Zantara »

Just to warn users who use PSP versions older than PSP 2018.
I still use PSP X7 and X9. This weekend I got the message in both versions that they were illegal.
I have proof of purchase.
I wrote to Corel and they replied that Corel stopped supporting any PSP versions older than 2018.

They gave me this link: https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/arti ... -Products-

In order to keep using older versions you have to rename the PaintShop folder in the register.

1. Go to Search and type Regedit
2. Click on Computer on the righthand side
3. Make a backup of the registry file on your Desktop
4. Look for HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Corel, PaintShop
5. Rightclick on the folder PaintShop and rename it into "PaintShop ProOld"
6. Close the registerfile and restart the PSP version which suddenly was illegal.

If they drop their support to PSP 2018 from still supporting PSP X4 for Windows 10, it doesn't bode well.

Not seen anything like that I am glad to say.
I use PSP X9 and have no intention of changing to a newer version.

If Corel really (?) want to make trouble, this is a good way to go about it.
There are plenty of good image editors out there, some are free.
Corel will be shooting themselves in the foot if they adopt this attitude.

I still have PSPx4, x6, x7, x8, x9. Thankfully, I have been able to open those with no notices. I Will keep the information, though. Making a word processor file and saving it in a PSP folder was easy.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Will save the fix info until I get around to doing it. I get the notices but just close them and ignore them, because the programs work flawlessly despite what the warnings say.

@Zantara

Please send me your ticket number so that I can have a look at the issue.

There is a thin line which eventually the agent hasn't understood: Indeed we don't support older versions, however, like in your case, if you get a illegal message than we look into this.

For all who use older versions, Corel does not stop you using older versions, however in case you have a technical problem with an older version and you contact our support team, we have to draw a line.

Receiving an illegal message is no technical issue, for that reason, of course we look into this.
I work for the Corel UK Support. I will not give technical support through this forum and my answer is only related to this thread.
