Eraser won't work 2018, 2019 versions

I can open virtually any drawing, jpg or pspimage, engage the eraser tool and start erasing.

This problem drawing, however, won't respond. I've been working awhile, but no luck after loading that drawing into both 2018 and 2019 versions.

The paint brush tool behaves the same.

Is there some combination of settings that prevents these tools from working?

Would help if you let us know what type of file you have loaded - a jpg or a pspfile with a number of layers.
A posted cropped screenshot would help as well . Untick tabbed documents , scale the image down and place it near your layers palette to show us what you are worrking on.

Also try resetting your tools each tool has a preset dropdown section and to the right is a 'Reset to Default' button. Try clicking that and see if that makes a difference.

Now working in 2020 -- but I think I found the source.

I had a selection pending on a different layer. The problem was that the selection marquee was nearly invisible on this 4k monitor, probably 1 pixel wide.

While I was able to adjust sizes on nodes, icons, and a few other features, I could see no adjustment possible on a selection marquee.

I would hope that this could be a wish list feature on future version.
