This isn't new. I have found - and mentioned perhaps 6 months ago or more in another thread that I don't remember - that adding newer versions sometimes causes some previous versions to start displaying the illegal software notice. It doesn't impair the use of those versions but is somewhat annoying. It would seem that Corel is adding some "sniffer" software to their newer releases but - just as with most new additions to PSP by Corel - it's obviously unreliable and inaccurate, and in this case it's in what it "sniffs." I opined the last time that it might have to do with the files I deleted and other changes I made to at least limit the advertising and other intrusions that have also become part of PSP.Zantara wrote: What has happened is that my X7 and X9 versions are now classified as illegal software.
I have made a ticket and provide proof of purchase. I'm awaiting Corel's response.
I mention this now, as it was working fine earlier in the week, before 2020 was released.
My PSP 2018and 2019 are working fine. So since when has old become illegal?

Re: PSP 2020 is out
I sent out a ticket with the problem and proof of purchase.
The Corel supporter claims that Corel my versions op PSP: X7 and X9 are no longer supported.
Funny though, on the Corel website you can still download updates and patches down to version X4, which they claim they still support.
PSP 2020 might be out, but I won't be buying it. I'll wait until the trial version is released, so I can write about it for my visitors and members and when the 30 days are up...so are my days with wishing for the latest PSP version.

Stick that in my pipe and smoke it.Unfortunately your versions of the product are no longer supported. Because the computer landscape changes so quickly, it is unfortunately not possible to keep older versions working. Especially when it comes to new operating systems.

Who exactly was this "supporter"? Sounds like nonsense to me...! If not, then we are all in a load of trouble which I would hate to assign to the new owners of Corel! https://techcrunch.com/2019/07/02/KKR-H ... QOwQ7avMSAThe Corel supporter claims that Corel my versions op PSP: X7 and X9 are no longer supported.
FYI the version I have after installing the release version of PSP 2020 is 22.0.0.132

Ken, it was a genuine support answer. The answer is in Dutch, but it translates in to this:
And info about that company found on Wikipedia.
So yes...we are in deep s.it
And the bloke was right.
I just found this on the Corel website Source: https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/arti ... -Products-
And in my personal account it only shows the purchase of PSP 2018 and 2019. I have been buying PSP since X2. Luckily I have screengrabs of everything.
I received this for both the supportrequest for X7 and X9. Yes, I am aware that Corel is under new ownership. In one of my previous post there is a link to the article about the purchase of Corel by a hedgefund company.Unfortunately your version of the product is no longer supported. Because the computer landscape changes so quickly, it is unfortunately not possible to keep older versions working. Especially when it comes to new operating systems.

Re: PSP 2020 is out
I updated to PSP 2020 after a year of using 2019 and 15 years using PSP 7. I still sometimes use PSP 7 because it starts so fast. I'm a semi-pro photographer who does a lot of photoshopping of images and real estate sets. On the organizing end I use ACDSee. I'm using a Dell XPS with an i7 9570 and SSD, so things usually run quickly. I am not using PSP on a touch-enabled computer.
- PSP 2020 takes about half a minute to start, so I keep its window open and drag photos into it as needed.
- It starts in Manage mode, which I never use, so I'd like to find the command line that goes right into Edit mode.
- They seem to have fixed the palette/toolbar positioning. In PSP 2019 there were multiple horizontal toolbars for a given tool, taking up editing space. Now there is just one (such as Selection Type and Feather for the lasso tool).
- The mousewheel zoom works accurately on the cursor location, which stopped working on PSP 7 with the bigger monitors.
Overall it has worked for a few days without glitching, and the palette/toolbar fix feels worth the $64 Canadian to upgrade .
In case you are an Android phone user... I challenged myself to be able to replicate most PSP actions on my phone. My phone is a Samsung Note 8.
I use a combination of apps to simulate what I can do in PSP:
- Infinite Painter for selection, copy and paste, photoshopping images together, layers, and mask-controlled colour tweaking. It does a lot of the core PSP fine editing functions.
- SnapSeed for most colour and light adjusting, as well as adding texture.
- PhotoDirector for adjusting specific colours, like reducing yellow, or changing yellow into red. They call it HSL.
- Photo Editor by dev.macgyver for adding text to photos and adjusting the perspective.
- Fotogenic for its detail/texture brush, for making parts of an image pop.

Re: PSP 2020 is out
I am in the USA with PSP 2018. Although I have been getting ads for PSP 2020 I have not downloaded it. I have tried opening and editing with PSPx4, PSPx6, PSPx7, PSPx8, PSPx9 and PSP 2018. No problems here. Maybe it is a Holland-only problem?
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

You are right. Well, they may only support PSP 2018-2020 but the earlier versions still work; they are not declared 'illegal' when they open and they are not read-only.Zantara wrote:The link I provided to the page on the Corel website is in English USehume wrote:Maybe it is a Holland-only problem?

Re: PSP 2020 is out
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I started getting those piracy messages on earlier versions some time ago - I believe it was after installing PSP 2018 but can't be sure. I have surmised that the installation of that version (or maybe it was the 2019 version?) installed some kind of sniffer software that found previous versions and added that piracy alert message to them. I also surmised that perhaps - for me - it might have been because I have deleted some files in PSP that generate messages and also turned off all messages, and perhaps the newer version found that my previous versions did not now have all of the files that they should have.
However, to date all previous versions work find despite that piracy message, and save files as they should. I would note, however, that I also use my Zone Alarm firewall to prevent both incoming and outgoing internet connections for all PSP versions and disable Check for Updates (I actually do that for all my software that don't need internet access, because I don't like getting update messages, etc.).
So, as far as I can tell, there is actually no reason for people to open a ticket with Corel with proof of purchase if they can put up with the annoying alerts. However, perhaps if people overwhelm Corel with a whole bunch of complaint emails it might help to get them to change this ridiculous new policy.
I agree 100% that this behaviour being caused by installing new versions is appalling and there is no excuse for it. Even if it was true that the new owners won't provide support for previous versions they have no right to either tell people that those versions are illegal or to try to scare people into purchasing new versions or upgrades to new versions! When Microsoft decides not to support old Windows versions they simply tell you that no support will be provided in future. They do not tell you that your previous versions are illegal or are not going to do the job they have always done.
So again I suggest people simply overwhelm Corel with complaints and see if that gets any results.

Re: PSP 2020 is out
I have never had that message. Though I do have quite the gap in my installed programs list. PSPX, PSPPX1, X2, PSPX8, X9, 2018, 2019, 2020.
PSP came with an anti-piracy software, can't remember what it's called, if for any reason it thinks the program had been tampered with it would declare the software pirated. I don't think this is something newer versions installed to sniff out old versions of PSP. I think something just happened that caused the current anti-piracy features to give false readings.

It used to show as Protexis Licensing and now shows in the task manager as PsiService. If the service is stopped and sometimes if it's set to manual you will get the piracy notice.LeviFiction wrote: PSP came with an anti-piracy software, can't remember what it's called.
