PSP 2020 is out

Post by ehume »

I just got a notice from Corel that PSP 2020 is available for purchase. This means we will have to close "What do like about PSP 2019?" and "PSP 2020 Wishlist," replacing them with "What do like about PSP 2020?" and "PSP 2021 Wishlist."
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Yes, it's out. I've seen screenshots. It's got a new workspace, dedicated to basic photo-editing.
Beware of the extra bundle though.
One is Parallels Toolbox. You get a vouchercode that makes the software/app free for one year only.
But you do have to give your personal details, like full name, post-/zipcode, country and your creditcard details.
If you don't cancel in time it will cost you $ 19,99 or € 19,99 per year. If you do cancel, they still have your personal details.
The Toolbox provides a dashboard with options for Windows and Mac.

Here in The Netherlands you can only purchase PSP 2020 through PSP 2019, at the moment. And only the Ultimate version.
There is no trial version yet or a standard version.

What has happened is that my X7 and X9 versions are now classified as illegal software.
I have made a ticket and provide proof of purchase. I'm awaiting Corel's response.
I mention this now, as it was working fine earlier in the week, before 2020 was released.
My PSP 2018and 2019 are working fine. So since when has old become illegal?

Wow!!! (being sarcastic) - this is the new offering from the bozos at Corel - a new crippled touch friendly workspace to allow those using a graphics tablet to have a better experience.

I don't have any of those touch screen devices and prefer my workspace to be as large as possible to be able to operate on details. Images are only going to get larger and working on a large image on a smaller touch screen is going to be horrendous.
I see this as a sellout to the phone camera crew. Why not make a separate version for phone camera images - cheaper and so doing be able to have the purer form of PSP and concentrate on making it the best ever.
Also a selection of other graphics softwares . I am getting sick of these extras that Corel is tossing in. If something in one of these other programs , Painter Essentials 6 , Corel Aftershot 3 is useful why not add it to PSP.
Do they think that PSP cannot have any new useful things added to it then check / really check the wish list.
Might try the trial, but am feeling tha this will be a miss for me and the first one in 10 years.

Interesting to read your thoughts. I am waiting to DL a trial until a few more people have spoken out so I'll know what to look for. This reminds me of the hiatus I took after PSP XI.

Q - for those of you who have downloaded the paid or trial versions -- does PSP have a polarization feature yet?

If you are talking about the "Photography" workspace that PSP 2020 initially opens with, you can simply right click the screen to choose either the Complete or Essentials workspace instead. Next time you open PSP, it will open at Complete or Essentials and not Photography.

Yes I realise that if it is following usual procedures, but it seems that PSP is becoming more and more bloated as they add these extra modes of operation.
So we have seen
Edit only in versions before PSP X2
Edit + Organiser
Edit + Manage + Adjust
Edit + Manage + Adjust + Essentials or Complete
now Edit + Manage + Adjust + Essentials or Complete or Photography
see the bloating effect.
Yeah I am just a Luddite who uses mainly Edit Complete - know anywhere I can get a good horse and cart? :D

And what's worse...this time one of the bloatwares has nothing to do with PSP at all. Just a company Corel has aquired and now needs to make a profit from.
The GRFX Studio is a souped up version of the old Auto FX plugin. At least it has got to do with PSP.
But you can also download it from the Microsoft App Store. So...
KKR has acquired Corel (including its recent acquisition Parallels), reportedly for $1B+

Did I buy my last version with 2019?

Thanks Zantara -- that Techcrunch article is particularly interesting. I guess we may just have to wait and see if there are any implications for the Corel products we cover on this Board. I suspect PSP is safe enough, but I wonder if we will see a fusion of Pinnacle and Video Studio sooner rather than later...

Please please: if anyone buys PSP 2020 or even downloads a trial version, please relay your experiences. I would do this myself, but I am slowly working my way through the manual (Helpfile) of Silkypix, which seems to be the only raw converter/editor as customizable as PSP.

Not sure because you cannot really see what is included with this new 2020, but it seems they have eliminated a few of the freebies like Perfectly clear plugin etc...? Does any one know for sure what is included or missing?

Judging by the instability I've experienced with 2019 I'm probably going to skip 2020.

That seems reasonable; after all, it's why I skipped PSP 2019. But what if PSP 2020 fixed all of 2019's instabilities?

Edit: Corel is still advertising PSP 2019 at the top of the page.

Some registered users get advance notice and first dibs. Corel will likely roll it out publicly sometime this month.
