How cut all outside a mask selection
Hi everyone,
after three days of unsuccessful attempts I am asking for help here. What I want to do is circumscribe an image with an irregular outline (not a circle, not an ellipse, not a rectangle), then select the outline and, with a command, clean up everything outside the selected contour.
I have seen that this is possible using predefined vector images or text. In fact in this case just use the "cutter preview" command followed by "shape cutter". I would like to make the same "cut". I'm using PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate, and of course the shape I've drawn for cropping is on a vector layer. Any help is welcome.

Re: How cut all outside a mask selection
Again it would be good if you could post an example of your starting image and then the final image that you want. You appear to have suggested that you want something like the shape cutter tool.
In the absence of seeing what image you are referring to and what you want done I am guessing the following.
1. Make your selection using a suitable selection tool. This image shows my settings. 2. Right click in your layers palette and choose Promote Selection to layer which gives you this In this case I turned off the visibility of the background layer but that is unneccessary.
3. Drag the thumb of the promoted selection to the workspace.
Now using a mask can be another way but a bit more involved

Hartpaul, many thanks for your answer and for your time you wasted for me.hartpaul wrote:Again it would be good if you could post an example of your starting image and then the final image that you want. You appear to have suggested that you want something like the shape cutter tool.

..........
I presented my problem without near details, and in fact almost wrong.
Here a bit of details:
I have two vectors a background and this is the merged result what I need, is to cut off all outside the vector lines.
In the meanwhile I found a workaround, but not simple: I changed the lines color to white, changed the background form transparent to white, then clicked the "text" button, and so appeared on the bar the Shape Cutter. Clicking the shape cutter, the NOT white color masked area will be erased.
Sure gives a easier and faster method.
Do you can suggest me somewhat?
Many thanks for your support.
Sorry for my bad english, and regards from Italy

Re: How cut all outside a mask selection
OK you have a vector shape like a shield on a separate layer over a landscape and you want to remove the background so that it looks like the image is painted on the shield.
Easy
I am not that familiar with drawing vector shapes with the pen tool so I used the preset shapes tool which also has a shield shape available.
1. I chose the preshape tool and from the shape list beside the Presets chose the shield.
2. Drew the shield over my bird layer and moved it into position.
3. Choose the magic wand tool and clicked outside the shield so everything outside the shield is selected.
4. Right click the Background layer in the layer palette and choose Promote Background Layer. This changes it to a raster layer.
5. Now with the background layer chosen press the Delete key on your keyboard. Then do Selectione > Select None
Is that what you are after?

Re: How cut all outside a mask selection
No, dear hartpaul.
When I use the magic wand, only small areas of my raster are selected. This was my initial problem. Probably it depends on the selection correspondence, ie "RGB value", "color", "traditional" etc.
I am also amazed that you can choose a shield among the predefined shields.
How many do you have? I only have 10 ...

Re: How cut all outside a mask selection
Just tried it with your image. Works fine. Using the magic wand you must have the upper vector layer active.
And there is only one shield vector that comes with PSP. You may have constructed and or downloaded others , but I only have 1 preset shape shield.

Re: How cut all outside a mask selection
When you use your magic wand you must untick "Use all layers" so that it only operates on the vector layer . This works with all match modes except Opacity. I also had "Contiguous" ticked.
Further to what Jean-Luc said you are looking for the file
PSP2019_Corel_CreativeCollection
Download and install that.

Re: How cut all outside a mask selection
GREAT!!! Finally I made it ... One of the problems was that the "homemade" shield was made up of four vectors, which however must be merged into a group, so as to represent a single vector.hartpaul wrote:When you use your magic wand you must untick "Use all layers" so that it only operates on the vector layer . Another problem was that I had "use all layers" ticked.
As a novice, I am learning a lot thanks to you.
Thanks again to Jean-Luc for the tip regarding the Creative Collection, which I had in the meantime identified, among the various files downloaded, such as the one containing additional tools.hartpaul wrote: Further to what Jean-Luc said you are looking for the file

Thanks again to both of you for your kindness and willingness to help.

Re: How cut all outside a mask selection
No problems. Just another tip . You said that you found the Creative Collections in the group of files that you had downloaded. Also make sure that you have at least one more backup folder containing all those files and also on a separate hard drive or separate computer. You never know when you will get a failure of the single drive that contains all your backup files.

Re: How cut all outside a mask selection
Thank you Hartpaul for the tip. With PSP I am a newbie, but i work in informatics since several years. I have a QNAP "NAS" (Network Attached Storage) with two disks RAID configured, where i store all my important data.hartpaul wrote:No problems. Just another tip . Thanks anyway for the tip, and greetings from Italy.
