resizing photos
I have a dilemma. I want to print a photo I took with my camera phone, but a certain photo printing website is telling me that the resolution is too low. I am new to PSP and don't really know much about photography. I took the photo on my camera phone at the highest resolution. I want to print the photo as an 8x10. I have tried the resizing options in PSP from what I have seen on the tutorials, but still cannot get it right. Is it not possible to print a camera pic as an 8x10? I could use any help anyone can provide. Maybe I'm not providing enough information, but again, I really don't know much about photography or PSP. Thanks.

Re: resizing photos
Does this website give you the technical specifications? The number of pixels, number of Ko needed, etc.?dfuc1 wrote:a certain photo printing website is telling me that the resolution is too low.
Do you use PSP2019 or another version? (your Profile needs to be updated).

Re: resizing photos
To print an image at photo quality your image needs to be at least 3000 x 2400 pixels and the image set at 300 ppi. If your image is slightly smaller then you can still resize it if you will accept some blurriness. If the image is larger than this you may need to crop it in the dimensions for an 8 x 10 . Set your crop rectangle to say 800 x 1000 (or 1000 x 800 for landscape) pixels with maintain aspect ratio ticked and then select what you want in the image and move the crop rectangle around to get the best image

Re: resizing photos
True. You can do that or resize your 3600x4500 to 3000x2400, etc. My own camera takes 4016x2264 raw or 4000x2248 JPG images, so I crop 8/10 proportion cuts, as big as I can, then resize them down -- if necessary. Some websites need images with a maximum pixel size because there is a cost associated with maintaining pixels. But most printing places will accept images of any maximum size.hartpaul wrote:To print an image at photo quality your image needs to be at least 3000 x 2400 pixels and the image set at 300 ppi. Depending on the aspect ratio of your camera, you can either do an 8/10 proportioned crop of your image or you can take a skinny image and expand it to 8x10. The calculator function in Windows is handy for that. Just divide your height by 10, multiply that by 8, and you have your dimensions. In the Menu > Image > Resize... window, not only can you set your dimensions (the vertical should be the same as your crop, showing zero on the Top & Bottom Placement margins; the width is 8/10s of the vertical, and will show margins) but you can also set the Background color. I do this for webgrabs a lot.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Re: resizing photos
Open the original image from your camera in PSP without doing anything to it. Then go to the menu bar and click the Image item and from the dropdown menu click Image Information. From the dialogue that opens you can get the image size in pixels and the Pixels per Inch information (the latter is the resolution info). Post that information here to help us make a more accurate analysis of the issue.
Also, for an 8x10 photo you can often get away with a resolution of only 200 pixels per inch. However, an online service might have it's own set resolution requirements that are different. But you can always take the image to a drugstore kiosk and they will do a print at whatever resolution it is if you ask them to do so.

Re: resizing photos
Please see the attachment for the photo specs. Again, this photo is taken from a cell phone, so that may be the reason I am having trouble. I want to turn this photo into an 8x10 with no low resolution problems so that it can print without looking blurry or pixelated.JoeB wrote:Open the original image from your camera in PSP without doing anything to it. Re: resizing photos
The 72 PPI is the problem.
Resize to 8x10 inches at 300 PPI value.

Re: resizing photos
With an image of those pixel dimensions, if you resize it using the By Print Size radio button on the Resize dialogue and uncheck the Resample Using checkbox about halfway down the dialogue window you can then change the resolution field to 378 pixels per inch. This will provide a printed image of a fraction over 8 inches and 10.7 inches (you'll see those numbers appear in the width and height fields if you have chosen Inches from the dropdown). This will provide an image which a print service will be able to print as 8 x 10 without any problems and great resolution without any of the issues caused by changing the pixel dimensions, which is what happens if the image is resampled.

Re: resizing photos
Read my post after Jean-Luc's and just before your last one (you should read all posts in order to the end to see if others have contributed information before asking more questions). It gives instructions as to how to resize to a PPI value, and also tells you the PPI value you should use so as not to have to change the pixel size of the image.dfuc1 wrote:How do I resize it to 300 PPI value? Re: resizing photos
Do Resize by Print Size: My suggestion doesn't respect strictly the aspect ratio of your image (target is 1,33). You will get a little deformation. I suggest before to resize, make a crop at ratio 1,25 (10x8 inches) as suggested in a previous message (hartpaul).dfuc1 wrote: How do I resize it to 300 PPI value? I use PSP 2019.
And you didn't say what are the technical specifications asked by the print service.
