Apply current effect to video track between pictures xfade

Post by LeighElec »

Hi. I have pictures on my timeline, and when I drag the Crossfade transition between them pic1 fades down while the next, pic2, fades up. (and creates a gap between it and the next pic, which I can remove)

But when I right click the transition and "Apply current effect to video track" only the preceding pic fades down, then the next pic just snaps on with no fade up as I Play through the pics. I really thought it worked once yesterday, but it won't today. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Leigh :)

Hi Leigh

Probably you use the wrong transition. In Crossfade simultanously should fade down the first pict and starts to fade up the next. In the middle you should see 50% of both pictures. Take care that the crossfade is short enough or the pictures are long enough (2-3 seconds for 1 sec crossfade). There is an another crossfade which goes to black in the middle, ie there is no picture in the middle.
You can also do a different test. Pull the secind picture over the first one - cca 1 sec. The VS will select automatically some transition where you should see in the middle part of both pictures. If yes you can easily replace the transition with any other.

Hi Leigh
And welcome to the forums

You appear to be using the overlay track, if they were on the top video track then things would work a little better

Right clicking the A/B transition for "Apply current effect to video track" does say Video Track and is applied to the top track not the overlay track.

Gap editing is new to VS 2019 and has caused a lot of problems, although Corel have fixed a lot of problems.
Personally gap editing is not required with Video Studio which works perfectly well without.

Thanks weaver. Yep, the Crossfade transition I am using does what you point out that it should if I drag it between 2 jpg's on the Timeline. But it doesn't if I try to apply it to the many jpg's I have lined up in the Timeline if I use the "Apply current effect to video track" option in the Transitions panel. It's the same for any transition I try. Using "Apply current effect to video track" places the effect at the end of each jpg timeslot, not overlapping the next jpg, like holding Ctrl when dragging an effect down to place at the end or front of a pic timeslot. If I set Preferences\Edit\Auto_add_transition_effect, then when I drag a range of jpg's onto the timeline, the transition overlaps adjacent pics, and the effect works as expected.

Hmmm, I'm still playing trying to learn this program.

If you want the crossfade to apply to the whole project, then in Preferences > Edit designate Crossfade as the default transition. You can of course choose something else for later projects, and even in your current project, you can still substitute other transitions individually for a crossfade.
