DVD Disk Error????

Post by bill in pa »

Hello To All!

Yesterday I created a video using the new chapter
marker in 2018 Ultimate. Checked through the program
everything seemed to be exactly as I ordered it,
burned to disk...................................the result is in the photo
attached. I know I do some dumb things but this is one I have
never seen before. I’ve never heard of it~!he same disk seems to
work in the computer?

Thoughts anyone???

Does it play in your computer with, say, VLC player?

Can we assume you physically made a menu when producing the DVD, and attempted to use the chapter markers within that menu?

I confess I am a bit mystified by your reference to the "new chapter marker in VS 2018". I wasn't aware of anything new there, and chapter markers -- at least to me -- have been available for quite a long time in a number of VS versions. It might therefore be useful to know how you went about making your menu in this case.

Hi Ken,

By “new” I met the green triangles located in the box on
the lower l/h side, I used these to mark the various clips as I was
loading them into the program. As I got into the screen right before you
actual run “burn to disk”screen, I played the video back and all
chapter markers were in place and the video segments were
in proper order. When I went to play the video DVD on the computer
the disk was completely out of order with no chapter markers.
The disk played with window media player, I do not have VLC
program that you mentioned loaded right now although I could load it
if you think it would help. We have two DVD players and both
of them gave the same screen message that I enclosed in my orginial
posting.

Does your burned DVD contain a folder called "Video_TS"?

Each video clip that you add to the timeline is considered a Title and not a chapter. Each Title (or video clip) will create a Menu item on the Main menu page.
Each Title can be "subdivided" into Chapters by creating the "green" chapters markers on the timeline. Those chapter markers will the become sub-menu items under the menu for the selected video clip.

Did you use the Preview option to test your menu structure before burning the DVD?

I am assuming that he may not have ticked the Create Menu box on the first page of the Burning module. As canuck has suggested, those chapter markers are only useful if you are creating a menu and sub-menu (Chapters). I get the feeling from what bill in pa is saying that he did not go through this process but believed instead that the chapter markers would do something automatically...

Hi Ken,

You know me better than I know myself! That’s
exactly what I did and although I am usually guilty,
of these misdemeanors from time to time, I must
plead innocent this time. I started using this
feature from looking it up in some of the instructions
on line. Soon as I take a break here and blow the froth
off a few, I am going to re-do the project but under my
old way and we will see what happens.

I don’t know the current weather where you gentlemen are
but here in northeast PA, we are rapidity approaching100 degrees Fahrenheit!

Re-did the project with the same result???
Dvd will not play as per screen shot. I tried
every thing I know short of reloading the
program but I may have a choice unless one
of you folks has a thought, I’m lost again.

Best to you,
bill in pa

Did you read my post and my questions?

I still don't understand what you are doing. Why don't you list your process step by step?

Put the DVD into your PC and open with W explorer. Copy the screen what you see on DVD.

It is very hard to read what is on those screen shots.

What is the total time length of your project?

How many individual clips (called Titles in VS terminology) are in your project?
Do you want to sub-divide some clips into Chapter?

Project is only 1 hour and 22 minutes. Made
up of 7 segments all from YouTube on my new
d-5100 camera. This is another dslr I am using.

The 7 chapters are all clearly defined and marked
as such. I have been using VS since its Ulead days
so this is not my first time at the rodeo……………...only
with this problem. I’ve been here about 7 years.
