Aged Newspaper Effect (color version?)

Post by johnmcd »

I work on newspaper ads sometimes and it would be very nice to be able to preview what an image is going to look like in the newpaper. Just from having done so many, I already have an idea of how an image will be presented in newsprint. But it would be nice to be able to show others what it would look like in the newspaper. They don't always understand or like that their favorite picture is going to turn out to be a big black blob in the newspaper ad.
So.. I have been poking around looking for some kind of filter or recipe to follow that would provide a preview of how an image will look in the newspaper (not some 100 year old paper, but a current sunday paper with color)
any ideas?
thank you
john

If you have access to letter-sized newsprint, how about a test-print on newsprint? Just the ad, now.

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying. my printer just prints on standard copier paper. I'm looking for a filter that I can overlay my image to show (on the screen) what it will look like when it shows up in the newspaper.

I haven't looked at a newspaper in ages. Do they still use halftone dots to make up the image? If so you can go under Effects -> Artistic Effects -> Halftone.

(OT?) And this is why newspapers are failing in the US and Britain (and perhaps elsewhere).

@LeviFiction, Im not familiar with current printing methods but The cheap penny trader papers where my ads go, are all very pulpy like that.
The filter you suggest is a great help.
