Black "border" need not be painted. Templates can be presented against backgrounds of any color, giving the appearance of a painted grid with much less hassle. I obtained that context menu by right-clicking on the page margin (not on an image). You then select Page Setup... which leads you to this window: See the little box in the middle where it says Background? Click on that and choose your color. I chose black for this example.
