Hi,
I have VSP 10 on windows ten and I'm exporting a 28 minute project from VSP to a thumb drive. It's mostly studio footage shot in a local access cable lab. My aim is to get an mpeg 4 file. I clicked "Same as project settings" and also "create preview range only" and "enable smart render." The sound sync to visuals in just fine on the project in VSP. But in the completed USB export, about halfway through, the sound begins to precede the picture by a noticeable amount (maybe a second). This sync loss seems to begin after a segment in which I superimpose titles over black footage and inserted sound from an outside source and it goes on for the final 15 minutes of the exported project. Any way to correct this?
Thank you,
Al Marotta

Re: Sound sync problem
Have you tried it without SmartRender enabled?
Otherwise, it would be useful to know the properties of the video in the project, and all of the Project Settings.

Re: Sound sync problem
Hi Ken,
Here are the settings for my export:
NTSC drop frame 29.97 FPS
MPEG-4 files
24bits 1920X1080 29.97 FPS
frame based
H264baseline profile video 5303 KBps 16.9
48000 HZ audio 256 KBps
The project settings: I clicked "same as project settings" and "create preview range" and after your post I tried it without smart rendering but got the same problem. As a test, I exported just the segment where the sync problem first shows up in the project and there was no sync problem. Thanks for your post, Ken. I got it just as I was going to bed and instead of feeling frantic it gave me hope.

Re: Sound sync problem
My sync problem has been solved by using "first clip" and NOT using "enable smart rendering." I'm indebted to Ken Berry. But in closing could someone tell me, if they would be so kind, how to set a preview before exporting WITHOUT having to move those yellow markers on the preview screen. It is a pain in the butt to try to get the right side marker in the proper point on your project----you go back and forth and if you're lucky you hit the spot where you want to end your project.
Also, could someone tell me how to copy and paste sound and then--here's the most important thing---how to move it to a spot far away in your project. Is there a way to do it without having to go through the long and tedious process of scrolling to where you want to paste your sound? I haven't been able to find a way to copy a sound strip and then just move the cursor to where you want it and paste.
Thanks,
Al

Re: Sound sync problem
Hi Al
I assume you are referring to setting the Preview Range which shows as an orange bar across the timelines.
In project mode the preview screen white bar represents the duration of your project, that can be any length and if long dragging the yellow triangles can be tricky.
Instead of dragging those yellow handles we can use the keyboard F3 and F4 keys, aka Mark-in and Mark-out
Also adjacent to the scissors are two square brackets, float your mouse for a tool tip Mark-in (F3)
How to use
Position your timeline cursor at the beginning of your selection, you can do this on the main timeline, the preview screen will also show that cursor position
Make sure you are in Project Playback, the word Project being highlighted in blue.
Now click the first bracket or hit F3
Re-position the timeline cursor to the end of your selection and press F4 or hit the second bracket.
The Project Preview range is set.
Copy Sound Clip
You may be best to drag the audio clip to the library, effectively making a copy
Now navigate the timeline to the new position, drag and drop from the library.
If you know the time code you can enter that in the digital clock below the scissors, a quick way to jump along the timelines.

Re: Sound sync problem
Bless your heart, Trevor, for taking the time to reply. You don't know the aggravation you've helped me avoid with the preview issue and copying sound.
Thanks,
Al Marotta
