VS19 crashes and corrupts VSP file
Hi I purchased the upgrade to VS19 today believing it would play my GoPro footage better in the timeline, but it is still as jerky as ever and I've had to revert to smart proxy. While the proxy files were creating I continued editing on the timeline. VS19 crashed and like usual it came up with the recovery message except this time clicking yes to recovery crashed VS19. Next I opened VS19 and selected no to recovery, believing i could open the file and make up the lost pieces. However VS19 now crashes at 0% whenever i try and open the VSP file, effectively i have lost the entire video. Has anyone got any recovery ideas, or tools for checking a VSP? Eventvwr says the HerDocDLL.dll is the faulting module. Other VSP files open fine. VS18 won't open the VSP either, it simply doesn't respond to it, no crash no error, it is like i didn't click the button

Re: VS19 crashes and corrupts VSP file
Hi Matt
You will have at least two VSP’s
The original which was saved earlier with a unique name, that VSP should be still on your hard drive.
From File – at the bottom of the list may show that project file, a quick launch.
Are you able to open that project from the File list.
Your other VSP’s were created when the program crashed, you chose Yes to open the copy, hopefully saving that using a new name not the same as the original.
If you attach your VSP to your post we can try to open, if that can be done we can save for 2018
You should first rename the VSP to use .txt as its extension as the forum does not allow .vsp to be attached.
At least we can give it a try
There are no tools available to read or fix corrupt project files, although Notepad will open the VSP, reading the details is practically impossible as is trying to tweak them.

Re: VS19 crashes and corrupts VSP file
Thanks Trevor
After the crash VS19 offered to recover the project, as I have experienced with VS18, however it crashed every time it tried to recover, so I was unable to save the project. The only way I could get back into VS19 was to say no to recovery
At that point I thought I would open the origional VSP but that is also crashing VS19, I've never had this happen in all the years I have used the product
I looked at the VSP but could not make sense of it, other than it has an ini file back in VS18 it points to. I tried changing the path to VS19 in a copy of the VSP i made, but that throws an error that the file failed to open. I have attached the original as a txt file.
Thanks

Re: VS19 crashes and corrupts VSP file
I couldn't open it either in my VS 2019 (which is what I assume you mean when you refer to VS 19. For me, VS 19 is X9.) VS thought about it for a few seconds, showing the blue loading strip at 0%, but then crashed each time.
I note the vsp has the word "Copy" in it. Did you add that or is that how it appears in your File Explorer? If the latter, is there another versions without the word "Copy" in it?

Hi Ken, what you are experiencing is exactly what i experience. I am using VideoStudio Ultimate 2019
I have attached the original file name, no other changes, just making it a txt file

No -- I'm afraid that one does exactly the same thing.

Re: VS19 crashes and corrupts VSP file
Hi
Like Ken I was unable to open that VSP in any version of Video Studio
Your only option unfortunately is to recreate the entire project again.
If you use 2018 and then wish to try 2019 create a copy of the project just to use with 2019, that way you have the original to fall back on.
Saving the project - Generally I use File Save or Ctrl+S on a regular basis rather than relying on the auto save option.
Although in this case I don’t think it would have made a difference.
What were you doing immediately before the crash? I noticed you had used a VSP, nesting the project, although its difficult to say just what went wrong.
You should try Corel Support reporting the problem of the crash and the corrupt file, they may be able to fix the vsp, have to say that is a bit of wishful thinking, but you never know.

Re: VS19 crashes and corrupts VSP file
Thanks for you thoughts I was using Boris Titler just before it crashed, I've now recreated the video, quicker than support
I did have an odd thing happen during the process. I reinserted and cut all the clips and saved the VSP and closed down. On opening it asked me if i want to recover the file, thinking i must not have saved it I said yes
It then moved the timing of all my clips and in some cases it froze the clip so when you scrubbed, played or encoded to MP4 and played it was like a still image
In some case I have had to remove the clip and reinsert, in others I've had to reset the in and out points. Not sure what happened here but has taken me hours to get right
I have taken the advice of others here and saved after every clip change
Seems like there is still a few bugs in VS19, I never seen this behaviour before
Hopefully i can complete the video without incident

Re: VS19 crashes and corrupts VSP file
When you get the message to recover the file, say yes then re-name the vsp giving it a new name, view the vsp then close
The original project can be opened, comparing that to the recovered file
The two project files are completely separate, what you must not do is save the recovered file using the same name as the original.
The two vsp's should be identical other than the last edits applied to the original which remain upto the last save -- Ctrl+S
I have to say that I have also seen the message to open the recovered file with no reason as I am sure the program did not crash.
As I mentioned I use File Save or Ctrl+S on a regular basic so do not rely on the recovered vsp
It does seem that something strange is happening to your project, videos playing like a still image to me may indicate a problem / corrupt video file.
