Re: Any problems with VS2018?
The cycle runs like this . .
- about 3-4 weeks before the "official" release date, Corel must commit the software to manufacturing (RTM) for the box DVD.
- by the time of official release, the box and electronic versions are available, but there's enough change from RTM to make service pack 1, so the electronic version at release is almost always SP1. And note this has already made the box DVD "un-current" or out-of-date.
- and usually by the formal release there is so much screaming about bugs (has been ever since the new UI release with 2018) that SP2 gets published about 1 month later.
- and no attempt is made to update the box DVD - once installed you have to update using the Help/Check for updates function of the software.
Hence the comment about the box DVD being "out of date". So, if you get the box DVD as a backup policy, make sure you update the software immediately the installation is finished and you have done the first start, surviving the usual long 1st start time.

David
Thanks for describing the way that versions are released/made available which makes sense. Yes I am aware of the 'service packs' and realise that they can't be part of the boxed edition.
I guess that when you purchase online direct from Corel that you purchase the most up to date version (service packs already applied) BUT only the latest version is available.
Also I assume that if you do purchase direct from Corel that any service packs released after purchase will need to be downloaded and applied OR maybe the program checks for updates or startup and does it automatically and if so what about boxed versions too?
However stores (Harvey Norman, JB HiFi etc) will always sell boxed versions, sometimes not the latest, which will always require any available service packs.
Just wanting to update my knowledge for the future.

Re: Any problems with VS2018?
I have checked e-bay UK for video editing software, without exception, every one of the cheap products is a scam,(always too good to be true) when you read the description, most of them state that the program is supplied as a digital download and no license key is required, it being included, also that you need to follow their installation instructions to "Avoid Misunderstandings" and that updates are not available.
But then there are always gullible people about to be taken advantage of.

Re: Any problems with VS2018?
Hi John
Although I can purchase X9 in the uk at a better price it may not be possible for you to purchase from the uk
In addition doing so may incur additional taxes increasing the price
A few years back I did purchase from the US as that was a better deal even after paying the extra tax.
By purchase I mean direct from the Corel site as download, It did seem wrong that prices could vary so much.
This is a link to the UK e-bay, I am unsure if they would post to AU, certainly would be a cost.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Corel-videos ... Swrdlcy0tl
Once we have the stub for X9 and a serial number we can download and install the latest version.
X9 was upgraded to X9.5 sometime during the year which then received additional service patches
And if you purchase a download version you will get X9.5
I assume having the boxed version will allow us to install that version, X9, maybe without the internet.
Re-installing the program is done by running the stub
This scans the installation files then downloads any changes to those files, you now have the latest version. X9.5
The point is once we re-install we cannot install the older version X9 but install X9.5
As for 2019, new purchases install the latest version of the program there are no service packs required, today that is.............
Clear as mud

Re: Any problems with VS2018?
Hi
Robert I missed your post
I have looked deeper into the ebay link and it does appear to be a used program so I would stay clear of that.
Even so the last time I compared Corel prices the US was the better deal, whether that has changed I don’t know.
How much do you guys pay for 2019 ultimate from the Corel site £62.99 UK price
Although you would by from the deals through your existing program £30.99 from X7 deal
X6 may be even cheaper.

Robert
I did see those too and as you say too good to be true. Possibly someone who may have cracked the serial numbers selling them to unsuspecting people.
Trevor
I did not see that listing on the uk Ebay site. Anyway after applying the current exchange rate it is more expensive than some listings on the US Ebay site. Thanks anyway.
Thanks again

Re: Any problems with VS2018?
John,
The electronic download version is the latest, most up-to-date version. Any service packs released after download/install have to be applied in one of 2 ways:
- manually, using the Help/Check for Updates item of the program. This can be an extended and not very visible process for large packs, eg SP2 and SP3 for VS2019 were over 1Gb each, (commented on extensively in the forums so I won't repeat here), NOT like the way it was done in versions up to X9; OR
- automatically, if you leave your PC running continuously. To clarify that, when initially installed there is a VSupdater service installed that does auto check/update on the same day and time that your initial install was made. For example, thursday at 4pm. You can set that for various periods like weekly or monthly, but it always happens on the same day of week and time as the initial install. Unlike other updaters, it doesn't run every time you start the PC, or even every time you start VS. So unless you perchance have your PC running on the same day of week and time of day, the VSupdater does not run. Thus, to use this feature you would have to leave the PC on continuously.

Re: Any problems with VS2018?
Basically you need just a license number the installer will download the required files from the WEB. I did it today, the installer was a very small file and everything else came from the WEB.
Here are my experiences with VS2018 - unfortunately not very positive. With Corel we spent already over 6 hours with compatibility issues ( VS crash) and is still not perfect! I reinstalled at least 10 times the VS2018 without any positive improvement.

The VS X7 in 4 years never crashed ( on the same computer)

Re: Any problems with VS2018?
Crashes are so annoying.
Running VSX6 it crashes at times but I am wondering is that a combination of it being 32bit software and the fact that I only have 8GB RAM and often large projects (a memory monitor shows that there is virtually no spare memory when large project loaded). This often happens when I am dragging the 'scrubber' when VS has to do a lot of work and perhaps swap memory to virtual memory.
I haven't tried this with VS7 as yet and also I am about to increase RAM to 16GB.

John,
Are you sure that you have an issue with ram, 8GB should be ample for normal HD work, what is your virtual memory set to, with 8GB ram your VM should be at least 12GB
