Unable to create the file

Post by 76standard »

I am trying to save an edited .jpg image in Paintshop Pro version 7.04 and receive an error message when doing so. This only occurs when I am trying to save the image that is sourced from my windows pictures folder on my PC. The error message is, "unable to create the file". My operating system is Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit.

When I map the source file location it comes up as: C:\Users\username\OneDrive. My understanding of OneDrive is files are basically in "the cloud". Does this prevent me from saving and edited image in Paintshop since it is looking to save the file to OneDrive? I have no problem saving edited images sourced from a thumb drive or external hard drive.

I don't know if One Drive is causing a problem, but my venerable copy of PSP 7.04 saves originals and edited images flawlessly. Personally, I would look to see if other apps (you can find free image editors on the Web) have trouble saving to One Drive. Then I would see if a new installation (uninstall the problematic app, restart your computer, then reinstall the app) would solve the problem. Good luck.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Can you save the edited image to another folder you create on your hard drive?

I am able to save to the hard drive (C) in a folder I created. OneDrive is clearly the issue. I also discovered after some research about OneDrive that the default setup sets images/files as Read-only. You have to go into OneDrive settings and change the Read-only default so you can modify/edit an image and then save it.

Hi
I use One Drive, not particularly for my images but did try using PSP from my One Drive with no luck, no options to “open with”
I was unable to open any images from my One Drive without first downloading to my pc

I do use a sync folder and have no problems using that to open images using PSP, edit and save.

Neither do I see any issues with Read-Only, mind you I cannot find any details when viewing the One Drive Options, certainly I have not changed anything there.

So are you accessing One Drive from your internet browser or using the Sync folder on your hard drive and where were the Read-Only settings found.
