thanks for the reply, but the only 'Open' existing in the 'File' menu is for the project. I can also insert a video in the library or in the video track, but in both cases the error is the same as above.
The only thing that stands out for me in those Properties is the frame rate of 23.976215. I am wondering if it should be an exact 24 fps or even 25? VS as we know does not like video which uses slightly unusual properties...
Robert -- can you please upload a 10 or 20 second clip from your 4K video please so I can download and try it at my end. I am having difficulty finding a 24 fps 4K sample via Google...
Thanks Robert. But yes, it also causes my VS 2019 (and 2018) to crash immediately and without message. Power Director 16, Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium, Adobe Premiere Elements 14 and (Vegas) Movie Studio Platinum 16 simply don't appear to accept .webm video.
Curiously enough, the el cheapo Ashampoo Movie Studio Pro 3 both accepted and played it perfectly. Go figure.
FWIW a standard def .webm file I had refused to open in VS 2019, but gave me a File Format Mismatch error message and did not crash the program.
I have this same problem, and now I have a mkv file that does open, but without any audio.
Best solution for me is to re-encode these problem files as mp4 by running them through "Handbrake".
Handbrake seems to be able to create a rock-solid video from any flubbed up source.
