HOW DO I ADD AN EFFECT ON TOP OF CHROMAKEY..
Hello All
Im really hoping that you will be able to advise.
Simple question - hopefully a simple solution.
Videostudio x8
I have a chromakey image. It works fine when I chromakey it to my specific background. No problem there. BUT my chromakey image is too bright. Subject needs to be darker/some lights added onto image. Which will blend better with the 'concert' background.
How can I do this? Whenever I darken my chromakey image - naturally the 'green screen' darkens too...and then the effect looks rubbish when I merge it with the background.
I know about Masks...but what a hassle!...for a single image perhaps..but a lengthy video clip...! Surely I can simply apply a colour/dark colour or lights or any old effect JUST to my subject - LETTING the green background stay GREEN.
ADVICE WELCOME CHAPS. (and...any good suggestions on adding lights and a few simple effects...basically..to make it look like someone is in a nightclub/concert is what I am after. )

You cant just eat the cake and also keep it .
No trouble to adjust video levels and also re-adjusting the chroma key

I appreciate the reply but you didn't explain at all! One minute saying cannot have cake and eat it..the next you place screenshots with no explination?
SO - how do i adjust ( make a lot darker ) my chromakey subject - whislt STILL having the actual green screen background looking Green ( so the chroma effect will do it's job? )

What do you complain about? that I didn't chew and spit the cake down your throat?
All the information is there, you better read the manual, explore and get to know the software.

Hi
Asik has applied the Chroma key to the image on overlay track 1 to remove the green background
Then applied “colour correction” to the same clip as his second image
For Colour Correction double click the clip on overlay 1 to open the options panel, edit tab, colour correction. (As second image)
In addition he has placed a duplicate clip on overlay 2 to show the difference in brightness, the lady to the left being a little darker

Re: HOW DO I ADD AN EFFECT ON TOP OF CHROMAKEY..
...I HAVE tried this....( that's ALL ive been doing for the past day! )
YES! it obviously darkens down the image -but at the same time brings in the green background a little...so clearly it is darkening up the ENTIRE image ( with my green background ).
My point was...to darken THE IMAGE ( person in this case ) and LEAVING the green background GREEN....so I get a decent chromakey effect.
Thought that was quite clear. Hence cake chappie not really being of any use. And Manual and YouTube Gripps not much help either.

Re: HOW DO I ADD AN EFFECT ON TOP OF CHROMAKEY..
Hi
I apply the Chroma Key from the Options panel to remove the green background
Then apply the Colour Correction to darken the image only, that does not affect the background.
Post updated
as you apply the chroma effect does that also remove parts of the image, if so then not all the background will be removed, the colour correction would then affect that.
I assume the image is a still image BMP, Jpeg etc
You may be best to use an image editor to remove the background, darken and save as a PNG which supports transparencies, then import to video studio

Re: HOW DO I ADD AN EFFECT ON TOP OF CHROMAKEY..
Ok thanks once again.
The suggested idea applying image editor etc etc - its getting a back too complicated for little ole' me. Basically it cant really do it. That's ok. Will just think of something else re film.
Thanks again for the speedy replies.

Re: HOW DO I ADD AN EFFECT ON TOP OF CHROMAKEY..
Hi garjobo123
It seems as though the darkening of the image is also changing the green background slightly so that an exact match does not occur to make Chroma-key work properly
so change the colour as follows
Double click on the Green screen image in your timeline - this should open the options panel (see image below)
click on the 'effect' tab at the top of the panel - then click to tick the little box next to ;apply overlay options'
this should enable the little eye dropper icon - click on that and then click on the green background in the little image to the right
this should change the chroma-key selection colour to match your image and going back to the timeline should solve your problem
