VS Ultimate 10 freezes

Post by MikesMovies »

Good morning

I have been getting this super annoying freeze during compiling, all goes well then for no particular reason the programme freezes and i have to close it via task manager.
Windows just reports that it stopped responding.

It used to do it very occasionally in the past but would get itself going again if left, that does not happen now.

Editing 50fps 1080p.

Windows 7 64bit.

Anything I can try to fix this please?
Kind regards from Mike in Sussex UK

Does this happen when rendering all VSPs or just one? If the latter then you need to determine which clip or filter is causing VS to "freeze".

That 50fps may be your problem. VS often has issues with clips that are not the normal NTSC or PAL frame rates (29.97 aka 30fps or 25fps, respectively). And your description indicates it's happening during render, rather than a normal project file "play". So, some suggestions
1. as mentioned try to isolate the clip that's causing the problem: specifically, either mute the video tracks pne by one (main and overlays) with the track mute button at the LH end of track, or simply copy the vsp to a test version and remove/replace the clips until you find one that on removal, results in a good render. Post the properties of that clip so we can all see them.
2. change the spec of your render from 50fps to either 30 or 25fps (in the share page, choose a profile listing that is 25 or 30fps) and re-render as a test.

You might try accept the option to let VS change the project settings to match the video's properties and then see if you can render successfully. If you still can't render any videos then perhaps it's time for a complete uninstall followed by a reinstall.

I see that 50fps is offered by VS so I would assume that this frame rate is support. However, I've only rendered at 59.94fps and 29.97fps videos.

Thanks everyone

50fps is the PAL double that my camera shoots in, it can do 25fps or NTCS at 29.97.

I managed to get through the latest production by hitting the 'save' button after almost every edit.
The freeze tends to happen when I go into a clips properties and start to change colour or brightness etc, or simply being a bit quick with the mouse can cause it.

You first described your issue as "I have been getting this super annoying freeze during compiling". Now instead of a rendering issue, it's an editing one. Hence, it's hard to understand what you're issue is so perhaps you could clarify your issue.

You had stated that you couldn't render any videos but now you state that you "managed to get through the latest production" so it sounds like you have solved your issue.

Issues is as described.
Happens when compiling the storyboard, usually during editing the clips, brightness, grammar etc but sometimes for no more reason than clicking between functions.
Never mentioned rendering, that bit is fine.
My fix was to not trust it and save at every step which is tiresome to say the least.
Many thanks

Update, tried a different camera and used 25fps and 1080p

Program again froze as I was increasing the brightness on one of the clips.

Most odd!
