Can't get Erase Tool to work.
I can't seem to get the program to erase things anymore. I've done all the usual things to refresh the program , etc but it's not working. I'm obviously missing something here, any hints gang?

Which version of PSP are you using? You have several listed in your profile.
So, just starting off. These are the simplest checks I can suggest.
1) Have you made sure no selections are active on the image? (Selections -> Select None)
2) Is Opacity set at 100? 2019 properly respects the opacity setting, an opacity of 1 will appear to be doing nothing.
3) If there are more than one layer - Are you on the correct layer?

Re: Can't get Erase Tool to work.
I just tested the eraser with PSP 2018. I had the identical problem to OP. Then I opened a second image. With that image, the eraser worked without problems And they were adjacent tabs!LeviFiction wrote:Which version of PSP are you using? You have several listed in your profile.

I closed the image where the eraser did not work. I closed it without OKing changes. When I reopened the image, the Eraser worked. So, LF, I think your suggestions are cool.
One way to restore the function may be to go back until it works again.

Y'learn something new every day. I was playing around with the Background Eraser tool. It makes a difference where you put the tip. It erases different things.

It should only erase different things if you have the Smart Edge option checked in the tool options bar. Otherwise it should erase type of object.ehume wrote:Y'learn something new every day. Re: Can't get Erase Tool to work.
Smart Edge is an option in the Erase tool. In Background Eraser, there is an option for "Auto tolerance." Same in PSPx9. I'll explore the auto tolerance option now.JoeB wrote:It should only erase different things if you have the Smart Edge option checked in the tool options bar. True. But the original poster didn't say he/she was using Background Eraser, just Erase Tool.ehume wrote:Smart Edge is an option in the Erase tool. And so I'm still curious as to whether your post about the tool only erasing certain things depending on where you clicked was regarding the Erase Tool or Background eraser.

OP got me experimenting. As I said in my post, I was playing around with the Background Eraser tool; not the Eraser tool.JoeB wrote:True. The Background Eraser tool has a point in the center that looks like a pencil tip. When I have used this tool in the past, I used it as a broad brush. This time, I used it on:
(another user posted this; the font is Xenotron)
I discovered that the background eraser would erase different things, depending on where I placed that center tip. Try it yourself. Very interesting behavior.

Re: Can't get Erase Tool to work.
That middle point I s the sample point. You want to put it on the background you wish to erase. I did a whole two videos on the subject years ago.
