Is it worth it to upgrade from Studio X10 to Ultimate 2019?
I have the Corel VideoStudio X10 Ultimate and have been thinking to upgrade to the latest Ultimate 2019. One of the reasons is preventing me for doing that is because I noticed that on the latest version Corel has removed the Boris Graffiti Plugin which I like it a lot.

Not only Corel removed Graffiti but Boris also removed it and went to other products.Telmo wrote:I have the Corel VideoStudio X10 Ultimate and have been thinking to upgrade to the latest Ultimate 2019. But is it worth upgrading? if you OK with X10 and it fills all your needs than don't bother.
(I'm with X9)

Improved color grading did it for me. Now, I do not have to use Color Director as much.

If X10 does all that you want then obviously there is no obvious pressure to upgrade as VS2019 offers no significant performance improvement. As with any VS upgrade, sometimes you gain features and sometimes you lose features so some investigation is merited.Telmo wrote:I have the Corel VideoStudio X10 Ultimate and have been thinking to upgrade to the latest Ultimate 2019.

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from Studio X10 to Ultimate 2
2019 has some nice new features involving colour control, but if you don't need them, upgrade is pointless.
X10 is reliable and reasonably bug-free. The same cannot be said for 2019, which has already reached sp3, and the last 2 sp's were each over 1gb. It particularly has side effects on a 2018 installation, and replaces a solid and very user friendly screen capture program with something called multicam capture lite, which is crap: ugly to use, over-engineered and under-performing, if you can get it to perform. If you capture stuff from the internet a lot using the LSC item in x10, then 2019 is not for you.

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from Studio X10 to Ultimate 2
I upgraded to 2019 from X10, and there are a few things I really like. In 2019 you can do the "customize motion" in full screen mode. These old eyes of mine like that a lot better than that little window in the center of the screen. I use the pan and zoom module a lot, and they have improved it with some new features. And in X10 the pan and zoom module had a white background. My eyes are sensitive to bright light, so I really appreciate the new dark background in 2019's pan and zoom module. If you're into fancy titles, X10's Newblue Titler EX has been replaced with the more professional Newblue Titler Pro 5. And 2019 also has it's own 3D title module.

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from Studio X10 to Ultimate 2
telmo,
I note that you still use windows 7. One other "feature" of 2019 is that for win 7, 2019 no longer supports the dolby codec. Since
1) the dolby patents have all expired, and thus any use is 'free'
2) the choice of 'support' is made at install time when the installer checks the OS version, and thus the codec must be in the download, and
3) windows 7 is still the equal or 2nd largest use of windows in the world (depends on the stats counter you use)
Corel hasn't provided a reasonable or convincing (or any!) argument about why they did this.
If you have a reasonably large collection ("archive") of mpg video clips recorded with dolby sound, then do NOT un=install your current version (X10): you will probably need to use it with those clips. Using an mpg/dolby sound clip in 2019 plays the clip as a silent movie.

Re: Is it worth it to upgrade from Studio X10 to Ultimate 2
Definitely not. I have used every version since x8 and X10 was the last stable version. in my opinion 2019 is unfit for purpose, unending crashes and it is impossible to use any transitions with Mercalli 4.0. Yesterday I installed service pack 3 in the hope that things would now improve, they had, it took almost three minutes to lock up then crash and Mercalli STILL does not work with transitions. I did try raising a ticket on Corel Support, and for a week it appeared as though they were looking at the problem, I sent them the required audit logs. Then they contacted me to say that they been unable to contact me and they were therefore closing the call. Yes, you did read that last sentence correctly.
Save yourself the money and aggravation stick with x10 or try 2018.

I had no problems with Mercalli and transitions. However, it does have some random crashes but, a frequent save gets around that.

Grafitti is completely superseded by Title Studio, and NewBlue Titler Pro 5 is also there.Telmo wrote:I have the Corel VideoStudio X10 Ultimate and have been thinking to upgrade to the latest Ultimate 2019. Not a reason to stay on an old version, IMO. You may even be able to reuse the old plug-in in the new version.
A lot has been added since X10. The upgrade is more than worth it, IMHO.
If in doubt, keep both installed.
