How to Perform a Clean Uninstall

Post by LeeBerlik »

Anyone know how to do this? I'm having various problems with VideoStudio 8, including: (1) inability to record voice with microphone (an error message states "Unable to Open the File %s"); and (2) inability to import material from content CD. I want to uninstall and reinstall (but am open to other suggestions for fixing these issues).

I've uninstalled using Add/Remove Programs, but after a re-install it is clear that remnants of the original installation were never removed (certain files were preserved intact), and my 2 problems described above persist. The instructions from Ulead Tech Support are reprinted below. I was unable to complete steps 4 and 7 because those files were not in the specified locations.

1. Show all hidden files and folders (using Tools>Folder Options). Delete all files/folders in 'C:\Document and settings\[username]\Local setings\Temp' directory.

2. Remove VideoStudio 8 from Control Panel: Add/Remove Programs.

3. Delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems and C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio directory.

4. Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information

5. Delete "Ulead VideoStudio" folder in C:\program files\ulead system

6. Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar

7. Delete folder {4F1DA6BF-3614-48A1-9970-9E90F646789E} in KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ (If you always see Ulead VideoStudio 8 file name showed in the Add/Remove Program, please repeat step 7)

8. Then reinstall VideoStudio 8

Like I said, this did not do the trick. Any suggestions before I go out and buy Adobe Premiere Elements? Thank you.

Have you installed necessary updates your system needs? It might need all your system updated to be compatible with the program. ^_^

Yes, my whole system is up-to-date, including operating system, video card, and sound card. It is also free of viruses and spyware.

Does it has something to do with the files you're importing? Why don't you try to use another file. I suspect files you're using may be corrupted somehow. ^_^
