Installing PSP On New Computer?

When I set up my PSP 2018 that I paid $100.00 for I vaguely remember reading something about being allowed to install it on only 3 computers. Today I am setting up a new laptop. Does the 3-installations rule apply to the current year PSP version (2019) or would it still apply to 2018?

The license is applicable to the specific version you purchase. So forget about restrictions that might have been set out for previous versions if you have purchased a different versions - at least if I understand our question correctly.

In PSP go to Help> About > Licence and you can read through the lawyerspeak to see what applies for your version. The pertinent parts are:

So I have 2 desktop computers and three laptops . One of the desktop computers has a multi caddy system so that I can switch between Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 . Theoretically I can place PSP 2018 on the three laptops only and would require a second copy / licence to place it on the two desktops and still be short 1 install . I have purchased two copies of PSP 2018 (the second at the lowest sale price) in order to fit in with Corel's requirements.

For PSP 2019

there was a change in order of the eula statements and also an adjustment and the pertinebnt change was :
,,,ParticleShop, Corel Painter, Corel PaintShop Pro, and Corel WordPerfect Office that have a second computing device (e.g., stand-alone computer and laptop) may download and install any of these software products on up to two (2) devices at an Address;

For me to match what I can do with PSP 2018 I would have to purchase 3 copies of PSP 2019.

Now when you look at Affinity Photo:

The License granted to you is limited, non-transferable and non-exclusive. Except to the extent any rights cannot be excluded by law, you are permitted:

if you are a private individual, to download, install, use and run for personal use, one (1) copy of the Serif Software directly on each computer running Microsoft Windows (“Windows Computer”) that you personally own or control. Commercial use is permitted but only use by you and not by any other users of any Windows Computers that you own or control. For example, other members of your household that use your Windows Computers may make personal use of the Serif Software whereas, if anyone other than yourself needs to make commercial use of the Serif Software, the other user will need to make a separate purchase.

So I have purchased one copy of Affinity Photo and can place that in the three laptops, and the two desktops including on the Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 versions. So 7 installations. I am the only user of any of these computers . Corel could do better in their Eula for those trying to be legal.

I guess that means if I install PSP on a new computer that has hardware issues and I have to return it to the vendor, I've wasted my license, so I would have to buy yet another copy of PSP. Where do I find lowest sale prices for old versions (prior to 2019)? I probably should look into other graphics software as well. I've heard that PowerPoint can do graphics. I always have Office, so I may play with that one.

With Microsoft, I always uninstalled the Office apps first. Then I found I was able to reinstall the apps on my new machine.

If you are having so much trouble with your old machine that you cannot uninstall from it, you could try simply installing PSP 2018 on your new machine. If that doesn't work, I would put in a call to Corel Support.

I'm sure you are not the first to have had this issue since Corel bought PSP 15 years ago, so they should have a solution for you that does not involve spending the money to get a new app.

Thank you for your suggestion. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. It was much easier years ago when I'd get a replacement computer, or after having to reinstall Windows, to just install PSP 8 along with my other apps.

Which address -- home address, work address, IP address?
I have a copy of PSP on the laptop that I travel with. I never use it at home. I'm confused.

The "up to 3" clause is for the "STUDENT AND TEACHER, HOME AND STUDENT, HOME EDITION." Based on your information, I don't think that is what you have. I would recommend uninstalling the app from your old laptop, if you can. Then reinstall on your new machine.

If you run into trouble when you reinstall, I would call Corel's customer support for help.

Try installing it to another computer (the new computer you will be using) and see if PSP works. If not, call customer support.

Why do people try to make things complicated. If you read the two conditions carefully :
1 , you can install the program on up to 3 computers that you own (usually at your personal address)
and
2. You can only use one of those installs at a time.

the 'at that address' makes the assumption that you own up to three computers at your address. It does not require you to use the programs / machines only at that address - what happens if you move house, go on holiday with your laptop or other relocations. They are only concerned that you do not use the program on a laptop on holiday and at the same time someone else is using it on another of your computers when they should be buying a licence. Though it may be difficult to check that. Then at the same time if you are on a laptop and not connected to the internet they will not know that you are using the program away from your address.

Lastly it does not say that you may only install the program three times. It might be possible for a person to have 2 laptops and a desktop computer and have installed PSP 3 times , then you have an electrical fault that wipes out your main computer and a laptop. You replace these and then install PSP twice again - you have now had 5 installs but still only have it on three computers.

I believe Corel is more concerned with the persons that install PSP on a computer then sell that computer with PSP as a bonus and repeat that or attempt to repeat that 10 times in a short period of time.

When you install the later versions you are required to register the program before installation will complete. I seem to remember that being the case although I have not had to do an installation recently to check. Corel is able to check the number of registratiions and so question you if the number of registrations gets excessive. With some of the older versions you could skip the registration but now seems to be compulsory.
I don't know what excessive means maybe 5, maybe 7 - does anybody know ? Has anybody had a run of difficulties that has finished up with the program refusing to install because of too many installations.

I do know that is some of the problems mentioned on this forum there have been some people that say they have uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times so it does not seem to have become an issue with them.

Exactly! I recall, some time ago, saying basically the same thing in a previous thread where somebody was asking this question and a lot of stuff was posted about the EULA, what it said, what it meant, etc.

Give it a break, people! The cops won't be coming and I'm sure - for those of a religious bent - that all will be forgiven - or at least forgotten if the Judge even cares about Corel's EULA - come judgment day!

Over the years I've had a number of computers. I've installed each edition of PSP on each of those computers. No problems at all. I'm not advocating that users 'rip off' Corel. But I'm sure Corel has more important things to do that chase all over the world searching for user with genuine copies on multiple computers. If they were illegal copies I could understand. But legitimate owners should have no reason to worry.
Caveat - I can't comment on the latest versions that may require online registrations.

I finally got 2018 installed. The installation media is clearer than what is in PSP. It mentions a device that has become disabled. It appears that maybe the "address" is an email address.

@Ken and JoeB, no, I did not expect the police to show up but I expected that either PSP would refuse to install or would ask if I would like to disable the installation on another device (as I encountered with another app that I moved yesterday). If that were the case, I wanted to be prepared ahead of time to make sure my backups were in order. Apparently the PSP reinstall on the same computer after a new Windows installation a few months ago didn't count as one of the 3.

Now that I've spent a few hours transferring all my files and going through Preferences I thought I was all set to continue work on my project. How do I get PSP to stop displaying the image title as a tab?. I'd like it displayed the top of each image (see image above). I did not have this problem with my other installations, so there must be a setting that I have overlooked.
