PSP2019 bug? Smart Selection Brush

Post by Mike-PowerfulSignal »

Starting a few days ago PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate has been behaving oddly when I choose the Smart Selection Brush tool:

• The brush only selects what it touches, not similar features. (It leaves a "trial" the shape of the tool.)

• Once I've chosen the Smart Selection Brush, I'm unable to switch to any other tools; PSP is locked on the Smart Selection Brush. Most of the time I can't even close the image I'm working with or exit PSP—I have to use the Windows Task Manager to kill the process.

I'm wondering if Microsoft pushed a Windows update that's broken PSP. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Try saving your workspace as a named workspace, THEN use File > Preferences > Reset Preferences. Then restore your named workspace. If you go this route, do not neglect to do all three steps.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Thanks, ehume. Does this procedure save all my customizations (menus, keyboard, etc.)?

Why not experiment and learn for yourself. Save your current workspace. Then make some new customisations , new custom toolbars etc and save them and repeat with and prepare a number of different customised workspaces. Save them all and then practise loading the previous workspaces and see what saves and what does not. All it will cost you is a little bit of time , but a great learning experience.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

No. Resetting saves nothing. That is why YOU save the workspace as a named workspace first. After you reset everything, go back and load your named workspace. THAT will bring back your customizations. (I'm a strong believer in customizations.)

Edit: hartpaul gives good advice. Follow it.
