Using modern computers and tried Moviemaker3 on XPproSP2 W2XSP4
Timeerror always occur when moviefiles are above 1 GB I have found out
Support gives same answer as said in earlier thread.
Remove-cleanout-restart- install-install upgrade- a standard answer!!
Not very qualified.
Same problem arises again - a bug!
My output from Moviefactory is always an ISOimage on the harddisk and I donot use this unreliable software neither for capturing video or burning DVD and therefore more unsafe DMAmode for harddisk not reqd either.
The software works if moviefiles processed are under 1GB each (avi or mpg2) which also is the maxsize the final vobfiles gets !!
If you compress avi before loading you can get in a 1 Gb Mpg2 corresponding to 4-6Gb avi depending on Quality.
18 min of film in each piece is the limit-The software is more achapterbuilder than a Moviemaker!
You can join files to max 1Gb in Movemaker3 otherwise timeerror!
The process rendering avi to mpg2 is timeconsuming and seems ineffective-
If you prepare mpg2files DVdformat ahead its faster.
Another bug- using motion menues if its both movies and chapters it crashes frequently at the end of this process which comes after the timeconsuming videotitlerendering- quite annoying.
If you havent bought yet-WAIT!!!
If you already bought Put claim to Ulead to get money back or a free update is my advice as I think the next versions will be much better as Ulead can make good products!

NEW HOPE !!! It seems to work as promised!!
Suddenly it seems to work after a real close study of the problem I had.
It seems that I made a very simple mistake!!
I have different harddisks/partitions to use and also different filesystems installed.
I suspected the temp folder Moviemaker used may be located in a FAT32 partition- yes It was!!
On big videofiles you got to use NFTS formated hardpartitions as filesize is limited in the FAT32
Now two tests are going on which both started all right and will be carried out to the end.
One 5Gb avi and one 15GB avi to be transferred into DVDpal-video and both started all right and was not blocked by runtime error.WOW!!
My Warning may not be necessary any longer- I will find out if it works all the way through- will be reported later!!

It worked
The warning can be dismissed!!
Now I have easily transformed large avifiles into Pal DVDs no problems whatsoever.
I manufactured in my test imagefiles based on multiples of 2,6 Gb avi files.
I guess also that my problems mentioned in my warning messsage re motionmenus was related to my "unknown" selection of outputarea into a FAT formated partition,
Conclusion :Ulead Moviefactory is Good!!
testdata for your own assistance
Input avi file 2,64MB in multiples and joined to one file in Movimaker 3
Computer1 XPproSP2 512RAM 2,8Ghz processors
Total time to convert (render) and make DVDimage good quality 57 min
renderingspeed avg 139 Mb/min before finishing work -size iSO imagefile 1,483 GB
Computer 2 W2XSP4 512 RAM 1,4 Ghzprocessor
Input 5*2,64 Gb = 13,2 Gb renderingspeed converting 76 MB/min.
This test I interupted after 50% rendering as I got convinced after the XPtest above that the software works well!!
I have not tried one single large file ( above 10GB avi) yet but donot expect any problems based upon my test and earlier experiences of ULead products.
Conclusion- I remove ( and regret) my warning in the thread and now find the software Moviefactory very good meeting very well my expectations!
Anybody having comments to my conclusions??

Unfortunately, I had the same problem but this is not exactly that, at least for me. I use only NTFS partitions for DMF3, including the one for the temp directory (only my boot drive is FAT32). After 3 uninstall/reinstall sessions, I found and confirm that the latest patch from Ulead was causing my problem. Original DMF3 + 03/06/2004 patch are ok, but 03/11/2004 patch is producing the bug. In my case, it seems related to the fact that my AVI is using a DV codec. Any AVI with other codecs are fine.
