Shadow under motion effect clip

I am following this tutorial
Adding Custom Motion Effects

At a time code of 4.05, I am told to turn the shadow opacity up and can now see the shadow under the clip. Well I cannot, what am I not being told or doing wrong to not be able to see the shadow ?

Are you in Project or Clip Mode? I don't think you'd see it in clip mode...

When in the project mode and I right click on the overlay track the mode changes to clip

Depending on the shadow distance you may not see it if the setting is very small .. around 10 or below then it is so small it is virtually invisible .. have you tried increasing the shadow distance after increasing the opacity which also needs to be above 30 before the shadow is clearly visible set distance to at least 20 before you can really see it , would have been better if the tutorial told you to set the distance before the opacity then it would show up better.

I would first set distance to around 25 , THEN increase opacity to 30 or more , the when you can see it increase both figures to get the effect you want

Thank you BJC, order and low values were my problem.Visibility also depends on the colours involved.
