I created a psd file in Photoshop, which I then tried to open in PSP by navigating to the directory in "Manage". Several of the smaller jpg files appeared as thumbnail previews, but PSP crashed before previewing the 126Mb PSD file. I'm guessing the size of the file is the issue.
The problem is when I go to open PSP again, by default it goes to the same directory, and crashes again. I tried right clicking on a jpg file in another directory, but the result is the same - splash screen, loads the jpg momentarily, then crashes.
Any ideas gratefully received.
Regards,
Dave

Hello Miramar and welcome to the forum.
You could try resetting PSP to default via the "shift" method. Here are instructions. They list X6 but work for all versions.

Re: Crashing on Open - PSP unusable
Thanks Kathy,
The problem is that I can't actually keep PSP open in order to do what you have suggested. It crashes just after it displays an image.
I have now tried reinstalling, but it's doing the same thing.
Perhaps there is a way of clearing the default directory it opens in from outside the programme?
Regards,
Dave

And perhaps if a file in that default directory is causing problems then rename the file, or move it to another folder so that PSP cannot find it to try and open it.

Re: Crashing on Open - PSP unusable
I would try Hartpaul's idea. Create a new folder copy all the files to that folder. Then delete all the files in the problem folder. If it still crashes then you know it's not the files causing the problem. The file size won't be the problem. I often use files well over 300meg.

Re: Crashing on Open - PSP unusable
Thanks all for your input. Now resolved.
I completely reinstalled.
Interestingly, using File > Open, opening the 130Mb PSD file causes a crash (but I can recover from it). Opening a 130Mb TIFF of the same image is fine. So maybe something to do with it being a PSD file with multiple layers.........
