Taking a snapshot

Post by Pepi »

Oh, I was almost writing a dummy questions about: how to get snapshot from title effect, in case you need to freeze the effect. But if you try enough hard you could found the solution :)

When you want to take a snapshot from the video you could go to menu:
Edit / Take a Snapshot...
and you have it.

With title you need to right click the title and select from there:
Effects / Convert this frame to PNG
and you have it.

But now the question for you: when I take a snapshot from video the format is BMP, but when I take a snapshot from title the format is PNG. Is there a certain reasons for having these two different formats, or is this just by accident?

In Preferences you should find that BITMAP is selected for snapshot format.
Go to Preferences/Capture and change the Snapshot format to JPEG

That is true Robert, but still that does not answer the question ;)
After that change the formats are .jpg and .png. Is there a reason to keep them in different formats? I just wish to understand the product a bit better and for me this is a bit strange behavior.

Not sure I understand, all my snapshots are JPG, no matter what the source is

Ropert,
You need to prove it =)

Do you really say, that you have this menu but with JPG?
ToPNG.PNG
Remember, that is taken from title, but same goes if you take 3D text.

I do not need to prove anything to you, however,
place Title in Title track, select Record/Capture, take Snapshot, image saved as .jpg

But when you use the procedure suggested by Pepi, you do indeed get a PNG and I know of no way to change that, nor the reason why... Mind you, I never takes stills of titles so this was all new to me!

Well as they say you learn something new every day , in all the years I have been using Videostudio I never knew about the convert to PNG option

I don't think any one here will be able to tell you why the difference though Pepi , the only thing that occurs to me is that for many years printers and designers used to insist on .png images for printing from , maybe it is a legacy from those days , maybe the option was imported from another editor years ago where .png was the standard , buried in the past and not really a problem

but of course if it worries you that they are different then simply us "take a snaphot" on the title as well then all your images will be the same format
