How can I create text or a photo or a video clip in VS and be sure it ends up in HD?

As a start, watch https://youtu.be/Z22qe9-bt54?t=660 and then try rendering your file using a HD setting.

Note: If your source images/clips are not HD or higher resolution then VS can't turn them into HD resolution, rather you'll get the same blurry rendered output that you now have although the text will be fine.

Also, make sure your Project Properties are set to one of the HD sizes -- usually 1920 x 1080. That way, any text inserted will already be HD.

Thank you, Ken. I'd like to do some of the clips over again with higher definition, but when I go to Project Properties, the Existing Profiles and Properties info is DVD (720x480, 16.9, 60i, 8Mbps) and the Edit box doesn't let me do anything and File Name won't accept any input.

How can I set the Properties to HD?

If you are creating a DVD there are no HD properties available since there is no such thing as a HD DVD

canuck is correct if you are intending to produce a DVD since DVDs use standard definition properties. But more generally, if you want HD Project Properties go to Preferences > Project Properties when you start a new project. Then in the dialogue box which appears, choose one of the HD (1920 x 1080) options. This will allow you produce a HD video which you may be able to play direct on a modern TV.

THAT did it. All the difference in the world. Now the work of redoing about a dozen clips, but it will be worth it. I'm not happy unless something is as good as I can possibly make it.

So, you are not creating any DVDs but are only creating a HD video file which can play on your TV? Is that correct?
