Blotchy text
I finished my project and did a Share/render (MPEG4) to my computer to check my work. The video and sound are fine, but the clips with text are way off. The text looks like you sprayed an easel with Pam then tried to apply the letters with latex paint. The letters are not blurry - - it's more like they are not fully filled in with color. Blotchy. The clips with text also have audio (music and voice-over) and A/B transitions.
Does anybody know what causes this and how I can fix it?

Re: Blotchy text
Which version of VS? Which tool to create text? Can you upload and share a portion of the video to a file sharing site?

An image would help to clarify the problem that you're trying to describe.Shepdog1 wrote:The text looks like you sprayed an easel with Pam then tried to apply the letters with latex paint. The letters are not blurry - - it's more like they are not fully filled in with color. Blotchy.

Re: Blotchy text
A P.S. - This threw me because the text appears good on the VS preview screen, so something must have happened during the Share/render process.
The first thing I did was try to figure out how to do a screen shot to add to the original post with my question. Had no luck. Tried pausing the playback and going to Snip Tool, but it wouldn't go for me. Is there a better way to skin this cat?
I'm using VS Pro 8 and used the regular T function to create text.

Can you give us the exact full name of your version - I have never heard of VS Pro 8Shepdog1 wrote:A P.S. - This threw me because the text appears good on the VS preview screen, so something must have happened during the Share/render process.

Re: Blotchy text
Canuck,
My bad. It is "Pro X8" not VS Pro 8
I'll keep trying to figure out how to get a screen shot to you. Could the transitions and audios be degrading the quality of the text lettering?

Re: Blotchy text

Finally...the screen shot. The text seems to only lose its quality when it is on a bigger screen. Is there a way to fix this?

Re: Blotchy text
You have not given any information on your project settings, etc so it is hard to make any suggestions. Since nobody else has reported your type of problem, I would think that the problem is in your settings somewhere.
Does it happen with your projects? Can you you create a small project (as a smart package) that shows the problem and upload it to a website such as GoogleDrive. We could then download it from there and we might see what is happening.

Re: Blotchy text
Actually the whole screenshot including the stars is blurry not just the text. Are you playing a low res vid as if it is a FHD or UHD vid?Shepdog1 wrote:Finally...the screen shot. The text seems to only lose its quality when it is on a bigger screen. Is there a way to fix this?
What is the res of the rendered vid, e.g. 720x480, 3840x2160?

Re: Blotchy text
Okay. And one final question, if I may: if I render the project in 1080 to my computer, would that foul things up when I upload to YouTube?

Re: Blotchy text
No, as YouTube can handle up to 2160p (4k) - see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_wDwclu9vc as an example of a 4K rendered video uploaded to YouTube.Shepdog1 wrote:if I render the project in 1080 to my computer, would that foul things up when I upload to YouTube?

Re: Blotchy text
I think I've been asking the wrong question all along. Using the VS "T" (Title/Text) function, how can you compose text and be sure that it ends up HD?
Does VS have a default resolution for text?
Can I take an existing clip and increase its resolution?
I appreciate the patience of the forum with someone who seems to know almost nothing about making a video. I'm on the steep part of the learning curve.

Re: Blotchy text
The resolution for the text will be whatever the resolution is of you project. There is not special resolution for text
You can change a 720x480 clip to 1920x1080 clip but the results will not be better. The program has to "create" extra pixels to go from 720 to 1920 which often downgrades the image.
