Pathing for Plugins in PSP 9

Post by AncientOfDays »

A friend gave me PSP 8 way back in 2004.
I liked it way better than Canvas and Photo Shop.
I went on to buy PSP 9,10,11,12,14,18, 19, & PSP2019.
Now I'm regressing back to PSP 9 because of the way it handles gradients and virtual painter.
But I don't remember where to put the Plugins.
Can anyone help with the pathing?

Just like with current versions of PSP. Use File Locations.

File -> Preferences -> File Locations.

Just add the folder where your plugins are located to the plugins section in File Locations.

Yes and no.
Because I have Jasc PSP 9 it is installed in the Jasc Software folder and not the Corel folder the pathing is different.
Once I found I had to go through the Jasc folder it is a slam dunk.
Once in the right folder the plugins folder has the little note “This is where the plugins go”.
However, because Virtual Painter is not grouped with the other plugins, I’m only getting v5pe and not v4pe.
It’s probably just a pathing problem again. I’ll look into it later.
Thanks for your help!!

You can add any folder to the file locations list and PSP will look there. I always add a "plugins" folder in my PSP folders and add that folder to the File Locations dialog. I don't need to install plugins into the Jasc folder. I can also direct it to wherever a plug-in is already installed.

I just looked at my PSP9 CD (yes, I keep them all; I still have the PSP7 installation disk). I could not find Virtual Painter. What is it?
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

VP 4 & 5 are free painting plugins offered by Jasc.
When Corel bought them they stopped offering them.
They are installed in Boot Drive C;/User/Your name/AppData/Local/LiveCraft/Virtual Painter/v5pe & v4pe.
Even though they are not in the normal plugins folder PSP2019 knows they are there and makes them available.
PSP 9 is having trouble recognizing VP 4 but I think it is some object in the folder that tells PSP hay I'm here.
I found both on the we. VP 5 seem OK but my computer is Leary of VP 4 not because it has a virus but because it has not been downloaded very often.
So use your best judgment.
As with different versions they are different and produce different results. Some you will like, some not so much.

Nope. No plugins. No Livecraft. I did a repair installation from disk. No soap. Then I removed it and went to oldversion.com for v9.01, ran it. Nothing. Wherever you got Virtual Painter, it doesn't look like I can get it now.

As I recall Jasc offered as a free download. Of course this was back in 04, but they are on the net. I downloaded them just to see what they were. As with anything downloaded take precautions, back up your registry set a restore point and go for it. It's like a paint or draw program. But if you are not an artist it is a nifty add on.

Looked through PSP7-9. PSP7 has the demo plugin. Because the software was sold or part of a spinoff, there seems to be no free version on the web.

It originally came in an old PSP version as a demo and was available for sale. I have full version 4 and 5. I still use 5.
It was a Umemura Taka Software Design and version 6 is available in the Win 10 App store or via the Win 10 Apps website
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/p/virtu ... verviewtab

I have it added in my Apps. It has in App purchases. e.g. it comes with a few free artistic packs and the rest can be purchased for $3.75 for each extra pack.

Or the Plugin can be purchased for $48 from Livecraft
http://www.livecraft.co.jp/EN/vp6.htm

The Desktop version now also comes with Free Recipe packs
