MediaStudio crashes on converting MOV files

Post by Legolas »

I'm trying to convert a movie trailer from MOV to AVI or MPEG, but MediaStudio 7 crashes everytime, about three-quarters through the conversion. :x The trailer is not corrupted because I can play it easily on QuickTime without a glitch. The original MOV file is about 55 MB and lasts about 3 minutes.

I installed the SP3 but this doesn't change the result.

If I try to insert the clip directly into the time line, it still has to convert it and still crashes. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the software but the result is the same.

By the way, the conversion also takes forever. A 3 minute MOV file takes about an hour to convert, whereas some other converters available on the Net can do the job in 5 minutes. What's the problem? :?:

As you can see from my signature, I have a decent amount of power in my system. I disable my anti-virus when converting, to free RAM, but it doesn't change the end result.

Any ideas?

Is it copy protected?

How are you trying to do the conversion?

To do the conversion, I open Video Editor 7.0 and choose File/Convert/Video file... Then I choose the MOV file and click on Open. Then I choose the format to convert to (I've tried AVI and MPEG) and then I just let it run. It gives me a preview window showing me the video clip frame by frame as it is being converted. The end result is the same: the program crashes and closes after about two-thirds or three-quarters of the conversion process. It certainly isn't for lack of disk space, as I have more than 140 GB free.

I've also tried Insert/Video file to insert the file directly to the time line. When I press play, it starts the conversion as described above, with the same end result.

In contrast, the program ConverMovie, which can be downloaded freely for a trial period, succeeded in converting the file to MPEG in about 5 minutes. The audio and the video look great. Unfortunately it pastes a "trial version" message across the screen for the entire duration of the video clip.

Since ConvertMovie can handle the file with ease and since QuickTime plays it without a glitch, I doubt the file is corrupted.

Is it copy protected? I don't know. Is there a way to find out?
In any case, that didn't stop ConvertMovie.
