Help for a novice...

Post by sfz5 »

I am very new at this. In fact, I downloaded the free trial to make sure it would work first before I bought it. Ha, so far it doesn't. I am sure it must be user error, but thought someone might be willing to help me thru this initial phase.

I have a Sony DCR-TRV460. I have a computer well suited to the task (Dell 3GHz, 1GBRAM, large HD). I do not have firewire on the computer, but the camera also has USB. Using Sony's software, I uploaded a tape, but I hated what their software did to the video (created some collage that was totally out of sequence without original sound).

I visited ULead since we use their PhotoImpact and downloaded VideoStudio 9 Trial. I cannot figure out how t get the software to see the camera, and subsequently load in video. Every help page I have looked at doesn't seem to address drivers for my camera.

Maybe someone knows how I can get productive with this stuff. I know it is not rocket science, but it sure is confusing at this point.

Thank you in advance,

mikey

I think you would be better off getting a firewire card. USB doesn't allow for the full DVD quality.

Sorry for the PM, want to keep this public.

I intend to purchase a firewire card. I received that advice before I started this endeavor I will take your comments to be a confirmation of that advice.
(Actually, I thought I had IEE 1394 installed a the factory).

But shouldn't VideoStudio be able to read that a camera is hooked up with USB2? Sony PicturePerfect - as bad as it was - was able to read it. Obviously there is something installed on my computer that allows transfer from the TRV460.

Thanks,

No problem with the PM,

Hi Mikey,
This has me kinda stumped. I use Sony's DCR-TRV120. It doesn't have a USB port, only Ilink, RCA composites, and SVideo.
I looked at one of the manual's(Computer Operations Guide) for your Camcorder, available on Sony's website.
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-doc ... =DCRTRV460

What I would try is following the Troubleshooting advise to see if that might correct it.

I also looked at Ulead Video Studio 9 Compatibility
http://www.ulead.com/vs/compatibility.htm
It doesn't list your camcorder as compatible, however it doesn't list mine and I know mine works just fine with it.

Hope this helps
Ron
