video studio crashing because of HEVC
Just purchased VS Ultimate. I'm working with mp4 files recorded on an XBOX one X. When I try to import digital media it crashes. I figured out that only the new files I recorded this month are causing it to crash, no problems with files from Feb. When I tried to view them in media player I got a notification that I need the HEVC codec. Done. Now when I get to the import preview window, I do see the files for about 1-4 sec before VS closes. After reading other posts I tried running under all compatibility modes and 'run as administrator'. Uninstalled everything, previous X7 install, ran both cleaners for those programs. Reinstalled everything, same problem. Anytime a video with HEVC is displayed in the digital media import preview window, VS closes. Watching task manager as it happens, under the status column, 'suspended' flickers (not flashing) twice and closes with out notification.

Re: video studio crashing because of HEVC
Welcome to the forum! And I'm in a similar, though different, boat: VS 2019 and 2018 simply refuse to allow me to insert HEVC, saying the hardware isn't up to it, while IBM tells me it is, and other editing programs on it have no difficulty with HEVC.
But that's where I suspect your problem may lie. If the computer specs you give in your Profile are accurate, your computer is too "old" for HEVC. Have a look at the requirements (taken from https://www.howtogeek.com/342416/what-i ... 4k-movies/ )

Your CPU in particular shows as only 4th generation...Your computer will need one of the following pieces of hardware in order to hardware decode HEVC video:
Intel 6th generation “Skylake” or newer CPUs
AMD 6th generation “Carizzo” or newer APUs
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950, 960, or newer graphics cards
AMD Radeon R9 Fury, R9 Fury X, R9 Nano, or newer graphics cards

Re: video studio crashing because of HEVC
Hello,
First I want to know what is your project setting?
Tell me exact project settings I will try to replicate the issue.
Did you try to play the video in vlc media player?
Is it working fine? (The file might be corrupt )
Can you please send a small clip of your video? I will check the failure logs and will let you know the exact solution.
Till that time you can try to convert the video into another format and proceed with your work.
Thanks and Regards
