Issues VS 2019 Video Results

Post by musicalhelp »

Hi, thank you for your time. You'll likely think I'm pretty dumb and I am since I'm new to video editing and creation so please forgive my ignorance.

I'm trying out the new VS Pro 2019 and I've made 3 videos so far. The 1st was a small intro type video clip with logo which came out good. See it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oim1WRDEhdY.

My 2nd video was a photo slideshow sorta with crossfades between the photos with some text and it came out pretty good. See it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-plhtAWnazU.

The 3rd video is uses mp4 video clips with crossfades which is coming out awful. I have tried multiple video resolutions and file types, all appear the same terrible quality. The video is playing like scrambled looking, breaking up, and skipping a lot. It's pretty bad. I uploaded it for your review. See it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THcvYuo4v_s.

I was hoping that someone with more experience might could fill me in on what I did wrong maybe or what is causing this. The in program preview looks and plays the same as the finished result seen at the link above. I've tried various project settings and several file type renders and they all come out the same, messed up.

I appreciate any input or efforts you may have that could help me solve this dilemma. What am I missing or doing wrong to produce such awful results? Thank you

The two videos are very nice.

The third one is a question. Did you see during editing some troubles, or these artifacts came up after rendering. It looks like that there is some botleneck in the stream.
What was the mp4 original ( format/speed etc)?

This looks like what I was getting recently - I posted a thread about it the other day, and ended up figuring it out. In my case it was the codecs being used for decoding. My camera outputs Mpeg4 wrapped as MOV files. And although every other editor and player I've tried works fine without needing quicktime codecs, something about the VideoStudio pipeline doesn't handle them the same way. In my case, I was seeing the same awful distortion, not only in the rendered product, but also in the preview window when scrubbing through my timeline (but only when moving).

If you have the quicktime codecs installed already, try removing and reinstalling them. If you don't have them, then try installing them. And if you've been in the habit of renaming your MOV files to MP4 to avoid error messages in programs about needing the QT codecs, then name them back to MOV.

Good luck, let us know whether this helps! In my case, I now have perfect results and am loving the software.

Thanks for your replies.

The video clips in question were all mp4, 1920 x 1080 30s. I don't really know enough about video and file types etc to determine for myself what to use or change or whatever. Yes, the bad video looks the same in preview as it does finished. I have tried multiple file types as well including the .mov type. I was choosing 1280 x 720 cuz I thought the video would be too large in the 1920 original. My first finish attempt was set at the 1920 by default, Intel video, in mpeg-4 and it was just as bad. Since I tried other options and file types to no avail. As far as codecs go, I haven't done anything assuming the software had what it took in today's world. Remember, I'm new at this. I have no clue as to Quicktime and such or what you're saying really. I did make one in the .mov as mentioned which was just as bad.

There was an issue yesterday during the build/edit with the software locking up repeatedly for long periods with each command entered. To me it seemed that one of my clips was causing that so I replaced it with a different one. The software stopped locking up as badly but the preview and render remained the same awful quality. I'm not sure the former clip was the problem after all on that issue. The day before I had no such problems with the software and the same clips. I'm still at a loss for the answers but am chipping away in attempts to solve it. Thanks again for your responses.

Try disabling "Smart Proxy" before rendering as this is a problem with VS2018 and perhaps in VS2019 as well.

The smart proxy was off so I enabled it. Still same results thought at..

720 & 1280 both, 30 & 60 frames, 2.5, 10, & 20mbps, smart on & off, hdwr accel on & off.. barely a little better on the smaller video smart on.

If your original files were 1920x1080 they were probably .mts files. You should not have these problems in the preview window. There you see during editing the proxy files with reduced bandwidth. If those artifacts are there probably already you computer has not the correct codecs. Try to open the original files in VLC and check the quality.

What's VLC? Where can I get the codecs needed? Which ones are they?

So VideoLan is a media player. Are you telling me that installing the VLC media player to my computer will give me the codecs necessary for my videos' proper playback? If so, how is this going to solve the issue with Video Studio Pro 2019 editing preview and export results? as well as the same issue with all the other web and computer players? I'm confused. Can you clarify? Thanks so much for all of your inputs.

No, but with VLC you can test your original files if they are OK. If VLC can play the files, then you have the codecs and the VS2019 will use them as well. This you have to find out.
We do not know if your original videos are OK or not. That you have to find out.

Here we go.. VLC plays all my video clips beautifully and others. The Corel made video of course still plays just as bad as before. So we conclude that my clips are ok; problem is with Corel, not my clips. Original mp4s are 1920 x 1080. Corel video made at 1280 x 720. Both 30 fps

Can you upoad a short problem clip to a website such as GoogleDrive or DropBox so that we can have a look at it.
