I went to create a rectangle using the Rectangle tool in PSP 2018. It came out an ellipse. I ctrl-z'd it. Saved the image, closed PSP, reopened, and it did the same thing. Changing to the Ellipse tool did not produce a rectangle; and when I changed it back to rectangle it was still an ellipse.
I again saved the image and reopened it in PSPx9. This time I was able to produce a rectangle, so I used that.
Anyone else see this issue? Or do I need to reinstall PSP 2018?

Not Presets. Preset Shapes tool on the toolbar to the left of the workspace.ehume wrote:The Presets window is empty.hartpaul wrote:There is also a rectangle choice in the Preset Shapes tool does that work?
But I have no idea why you can't get the Rectangle tool to be a rectangle in PSP 2018 as long as you also have that selected in the Selection Type in the Tool Options ribbon.
However, you made your post even more confusing by making the subject "Shape Tool Malfunction". Were you using the Preset Shapes tool, or the Rectangle tool? I have never before heard anyone calling the Rectangle tool the Shape tool. But you said in the body of your post that you were using the Rectangle tool.

How odd. I have followed the Help directions and reset the database. The Rectangle tool still makes ellipses.

Re: Rectangle tool malfunction?
On the tool options palette, set radius x and y to zero.

Thank you. That solved the problem. Now that you have pointed this out, I recall changing the corner radii when I was horsing around. Thanks again.LeviFiction wrote:On the tool options palette, set radius x and y to zero.

Re: Rectangle tool malfunction?
And once again the advice is valid - if a tool is malfunctioning go to the Presets up the top and click the Reset to Default button and that would have fixed it.

Re: Rectangle tool malfunction?
Good advice . . . if someone has heard it before.hartpaul wrote:And once again the advice is valid - if a tool is malfunctioning go to the Presets up the top and click the Reset to Default button and that would have fixed it.
Also, the reset button is hidden inside the Presets window, which of course is empty by default. And the Reset button is unlabeled -- only by hovering over it does the label appear.
So, thank you for reiterating this good advice.
