The day the VS died

Post by Desertsweeper »

Anyone having issues with VS2019 not loading after the update? To be honest I rarely use VS anymore having switched out to another vendor-product that is just so much better. But I did do that big update that came out 10 days or so back and had a peek at the changes - so it did load fine back then. Then closed it again and not touched since. Now I needed to open an existing VS project so I fire it up and I get the opening splash-screen with the little back-and-forth lights in the lower-right-corner for about a minute and then that just vanishes back to windows with this in the event log:

Faulting application name: vstudio.exe, version: 22.2.0.396, time stamp: 0x5c8e9dee

Same windows, nothing new installed. Antivirus disabled, do a clean boot - all the usual tricks. Nada - she is dead. Maybe it is finally time to leave her there and move on to better things...

Honestly, I miss Ulead Video Studio. Can't make some things work in CVSx10

I purchased another video editor and have pretty much fully switched out now to be honest. There is so much better available out there for only a little more money. I uninstalled VS2019 that died, and will keep 2018 for legacy projects, as that runs just fine and loads almost instantly. I am reminded of the bitter-pill of 2019 every time I load VS2018 as I prompted to purchase the 'upgrade' for $60 (which I already did of course). For just $20 more you can buy a stable alternative that really does work superbly on my Windows 7 rig - way faster at everything including rendering, smokes VS. And that is how companies slowly lose market share and decline. I have bought practically every upgrade Corel threw at me since the beginning. In fact I still have CorelDraw v2 sitting on a shelf (purchased in the early 90's) to prove my loyalty to the company. My first video editor purchased was MediaStudio Pro VE back in 1999 - still showing in my "Registered Products" list. If I were to total up the money spent on upgrades to VS since then I could probably buy a production company. But their dodgy upgrades of late made me look elsewhere and I found better.

I fully agree with you.i also stopped at VS2018, what is already on the edge of usability. After a long discussion with Corel, they were not able to fix the basic issues, I gave up after 15 years the VS. I was quite happy with the VS X7 very stable and easy to use. The VS2018 was a heavy degradation in speed and in accuracy, compensated a bit with few more usable options.
Right now I can live with the VS X7 and the 2018 combination, but when I get in trouble I will immediately switch to a new vendor.

My main is VSX9 and only recently I installed VS2018 for boris and few other small things but it will never get full respect from me. I don't know if X7 is much robust that the later.
I'm also considering phasing out VS and recently acquired new NLE. (not perfect but work great so far)

Corel biggest mistake is to major on new bells and glitter hardly ever used or work perfect and, not on fun basic editing workflow tools that everyone could enjoy/benefit working with. :(
