What settings to use for facebook covervideo

Post by Studbaker »

Facebook covervideo are supposed to be 820 x 462 in frame size. The only format I found that let med change to custom frame size is DV/AVI. The problem is that facebook will not accept the video.

What settings are you guys using for facebook cover video ?

Thanks. Erik

Hi
And welcome to the forums
I don’t use Facebook so have never created video to those odd sizes, it does say that is a “recommendation” so I guess you can try other sizes, I would imagine that Facebook would be ok with Mpeg4
Video Studio Mpeg4 can use 854 x 480 which are 16:9, other similar sizes are available, assuming you want to use 16:9 and not 4:3
I would have thought Facebook should be ok using 1280 x 720.

I am having some problems rendering to 854 x 480
my video ends up grey with no colour, with a strange diagonal line to the left of screen

Hmmmmm

Rendering to 128- x 720 worked ok

Same here, in vs2018.
854.jpg
But google found that
"Choose a video that meets the technical requirements. A Facebook cover video must be a minimum of 820 x 312 pixels, with an official recommendation of 820 x 462 pixels."

I did my tweaks and was able to straighten it but still useless
str.jpg
VMS16 on the other hand has no issues with 854 x 480 mp4's
With Shotcut I was able to export with H265 but not with H264 as well as wmv.

Thanks Asik
The image you show is identical to what i produced.
I have also tried using X10, that made a complete mess of the video although in colour.

I did render images only and they looked ok, appears to affect video clips.
I have not tried other video formats

I have informed Corel / Nick-Yvonne of this post.

I never liked VS (cr*py) h264 encoder hence I use mostly wmv.
It's a matter of finding the correct pixels. A usable frame for that "strange" video size is 832X464

Greetings. Did anyone ever figure this out? I just found out about Facebook allowing cover videos. I'm using VS Ultimate 2019 and everywhere I look that says "Custom" for the size is grayed out so I can't change them to the 854 x 462.

I did get a video made, but part of it got chopped off. Then I tried to make it smaller, and there's too much black space around it. Not understanding why "Custom" isn't actually customizable.

All the tutorials I'm finding about it are pushing to purchase other NLEs. I've had VS since 1998ish when it was done by Ulead, and really don't want to have to switch to another program.

Hi
Have you read the Facebook recommendations that indicate using 16:9 aspect which is the standard ration for HD video
https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-g ... ideo-views

Other video details here
https://www.facebook.com/help/218673814 ... =ads_guide

You should try rendering the video using the Mpeg4 option
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 15000 Kbps, can reduce this setting to reduce file size.
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps

854 x 462 Video, I believe these may be the older settings before HD
If you do wish to create these then try using DV-AVI and Microsoft 1 codec
This will allow you to manage the unusual frame size.

Typical template
Microsoft AVI files
8 bits, 854 x 462, 25 fps
Frame-based
Microsoft Video 1
Interleave audio for every 15 frames
15 Key frame rate:, 75% Quality
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
.

===> Thanks, Trevor. I did use this option, and the video was accepted fine and looks great, BUT, under Frame Size Standard is 854x480 and "User-defined" is grayed out and not changable, and it really needs to be changed to 854x462 or 312. I do have Display aspect ratio set to 16:9.

===> I tried this option and one of the videos I'm using was grainy. When I did the previous setting, it isn't. So, basically, we just need a way to modify the width & height in VS.

I think you said you didn't Facebook, but even without an account, you can see the page with the video. And it does look fine here, I'd just like to be able to adjust the height down to 312 or 462 as they suggest so we can get the entire video in the box supplied without having to move it around.

https://www.facebook.com/ePubNationWide/

I did find a tutoral on Youtube where the guy was using Premiere Pro CC and he had total control over the custom feature. Don't understand why VS gives us "Custom" but it's locked even when trying to create a new profile from scratch.

Also I used the sound clip SP-M04.mpa which came with VS and FB said "Your video has been partially muted because it may contain music that belongs to someone else." I did click "I have the rights to it" and it's allowing the sound for now. It might hange when a human looks into it.

Thanks,

Mathis...

Update: I just went looking for some other options for software that will allow us to create the correct size and discovered that the Correct size is actually 820x312 preferring 462 instead of 854x312 preferring 462. Either way, VS doesn't let us actually Customize it.

Video Studio will allow you to customise some video type frame sizes

Try AVI Mjpeg which may improve on quality re Microsoft1

Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 854 x 462, 25 fps
Frame-based
MJPEG Compressor
Interleave audio for every 15 frames
PCM, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

You can set the project properties to use those settings
From share use Same as project properties, i assume you did that with the previous template?

Also from share you can render to other formats Mov will also allow you to customise the frame size.

QuickTime Movie Files
24 bits, 854 x 462, 25 fps / 30
Frame-based
H.264
50% Quality, 24 Key Frame Rate
None, 48.000 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo

In addition Custom options will allow for Web M also sets frame sizes

You will have to run a few tests to check quality

The 854 x 312 will create a banner type video, the 854 x 462 being as near as 16:9

Thank you, Trevor. Yes, I had set "Same as project properties" previously.

The AVI option you mentioned here turned into the same issue that "ask1" had with the lopsided gray picture back in April.

I tried this one and was able to change the size to 820x812 and it did work perfectly saving it as a .mov file.

Thanks again for your help, Trevor. We can lock this thread as SOLVED if you want to, so if anyone else needs to make a Facebook Cover Video using VS Ultimate 2019, they can see what we did.
