Project Won't Open

Post by jimswinder »

Scenario: Been working on a wedding video and I was all done except for rendering it to a MPEG-2 so I could burn it to a DVD...except now it won't open!!
I have been trying for the past two days to get it to open. It will either freeze at the same point (82% open) or reach a point and just close down Video Studio.
The last thing I did was to add an Overlay that was about 3 minutes long...the whole video is about 45 minutes long.
I don't have anything else open on my computer and even shut down my Norton Security...I suspect it is a dreaded Windows 10 Update...though I haven't had one lately...

So my question...would there be anyone willing to try and get it to open...and if you were to get it to open, render an MPEG-2 for me?
I think I can probably get you the .vsp file via a dropbox or Google drive.

Thanks for any help..

My experience is that sometimes VS saves a corrupted VSP that it subsequently can't open. Unless you have a recent backup then you'll probably have to recreate the corrupted VSP from scratch.

Perhaps the VSP created in VS2018 can be opened in VS2019 but I wouldn't count on it.

You'd need to supply more than just the VSP since a VSP file just points to audio and image clips that are located somewhere in your file system.

bummer...

This is actually my 20th rendition of the wedding video...each time I added or changed something I would save it as a different rev. so just in case, I could go back to the previous rev...

I can no longer open 17, 18, 19 or 20...

Hi Jim
If you have a vsp project file that was created using 2019, that project can be saved to open with an earlier version

how....

File Save As
Save As Type will allow you to choose an earlier version
I would suggest you add a prefix to the name example “X10 wedding.vsp”
If you save for X10 it will also open using 2018

Changes in editing techniques may affect the project when saving for an earlier version, I am think particularly of gap editing used by 2019 and not used with the earlier versions.

According to his profile, he is using VS2018. In any event, the reported problem is that the project "won't open" which is characteristic of a corrupt VSP.

Jim said "can no longer open in 17, 18, 19, or 20" seems to indicate that he is trying to open a new project in an earlier version and that can be done by saving the project and selecting Save as Type.

apologies if i got the version mixed with 2019 but the details are the same whatever the version number.

He said "each time I added or changed something I would save it as a different rev. so just in case, I could go back to the previous rev... I can no longer open 17, 18, 19 or 20...". I interpreted this to mean that he has 20 revisions of his project but can't open versions 17 to 20 which implies that the VSP is now corrupt. In any event, he can clear up which interpretation is correct.

All Revs were created in VS 2018.
Last night I went back to a Rev I could open and recreated the necessary edits I had lost and finally got it rendered to an MPG-2 (it took FOREVER).
Today I will try and get it burned to a DVD.

Thanks for everyone's help.
