2019 get more graphic pack - individual item install?

Post by Davidk »

I've just downloaded the free 2019 Get More graphic pack. And it did not ask where to deliver to, just did it, which may be relevant to a query I have below. It delivers to a folder on the desktop. Moving that folder to the same drive and folder that the related app (2019) occupies generates lots of broken registry links. The contents are all exe files with a curious pattern: explorer says there are 30 files, but a physical count says 32. In the that 32, there are BG (background?) 5, CP (colour pattern?) 5, FR (Frame?) 6, OB (object?) 8 and Do more titles 8.

And it looks like the pack contents have to be individually executed to be installed. I have done that for several, but cannot see where they are in the library, if they are indeed there. I am wondering if individual install is right, and where those extras appear when it's done? Basic reasoning says that since its a graphic pack, the contents installed should appear in the graphics library . . however the labels on the files in the graphics pack don't match with the items that are in the graphics library.

Can anyone comment on any of this - the relevance of the download folder, if individual execution is necessary (I would have thought that the "get more" action would put the pack in the same drive/folder place that parent app is, (a registry item) and auto install? If individual install is needed, it a pain in the b***

David -- what you describe is exactly the way Get More was done in VS 2018 (and X10?). Single installs from the large folder placed on the desktop. Curiously heavy handed, and we raised it several times with Corel under VS 2018. There is at least one long thread on it here, though I haven't yet found it. I thought you had been involved in that thread too!

Hi Ken,
Thanks for that. Involved for graphics pack - no, for menu packs, yes.

I'm positive that I got the free download menu packs for the prior versions, and in the case of menu packs, a headcount before and after download/install indicated that extra fonts had been added and in the burn module that at least the menu items were updated, usually with more themes. I can recall a dialog with you and others about just how much was in those menu packs. It's an area that I visit in detail every class term, because how to construct a disk with a menu is still a basic learning item. Even if the distribution is via an iso file and dropbox, rather than a disk and snail mail.

But the graphics pack - this may be my first download of that item. And what complicates the issue is that the labels for the exe files in the graphics pack don't seem to match the labels in the library. A bit of digging around with the properties (a tedious process) of those listed in the library indicates that the staples of the main program are in the main program sample/decoration folder and the extras - the graphic pack - are in the main user/documents/VSP content folder (see attached screenshot)
2018 graphic pack install.jpg
and the dates of files here suggest that this is a location for a lot of free downloads for several versions, rather than attach them to the particular folder (custom or standard) of the actual program.

With such an dis-organized approach to added content, it seems no wonder the program has glitches that are unrepeatable: and thus the many times comment that the software has bugs all thru it. Corel also seems bent on changing things so that content will be a standard folder in future. Shudders. Avoids thinking about what that will look like in program files.

The whole thing was -- and unfortunately remains -- an unholy mixture of graphics and templates. See this thread from about a year ago which refers mainly to the templates issue, but nonetheless tied up with the Graphics Pack as it then was (and probably remains):

viewtopic.php?p=355579#p355579

Here's also a couple of later threads from last year which also deal with the Graphics Pack issue more generally:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64775&p=364144&hili ... ck#p364144

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=63877&p=358620&hili ... ck#p358620

I still haven't found the longer one I mentioned above, but then again, I may just have been recalling the number of times the issue of the graphics pack came up.

The labels for the .exe files in the Graphics pack certainly match the labels in the library for me David

Looking at your list the BG ones are backgrounds and go to the background pane in the graphic library ... the CP ones are Color Pattern ones and go in the color pattern pane

Also in the graphic pack FR files are frames and go to the frame pane and OB files are Objects which go to the objects pane in the graphic library ....

but as I say for me they all went to the correct pane showing the same name as the file in the graphics pack and yes I did each one individually ... it appears Windows does not know how to 'Run All selected'

Hi
I raised the issue of the Get More downloads with Nick some time ago. (Centercode)

The three templates packs seem to install ok as they populate the common folder %Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate used by all versions of Video Studio
The Graphics packs being the same but occupying the folder
%Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPContent

We could argue that the download and installation process is not intuitive
1 / we download the graphics pack (GraphicPack.exe) it is a self extracting exe file, running that indicates installing when in fact it is extracting its content to individual exe files, saved to a desktop folder, about 30 items. (sample - BG01.exe)

2 / then running the individual Exe files (BG01.exe) will install the files approx. 5 background samples to Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPContent

There are other free files, Fonts (DoMore_Title_01.exe) are installed the windows font folder available for all to use. The name of the font exe being confusing, there are 4 in all
The two troublesome freebies are the Title packs (DoMore_Title_07.exe and 08)

Problems
and the two Menu packs, one for BD and one for DVD are no longer available for 2018 or 2019.
The Title packs install to X10, as far as I know not fixed for 2018 or 2019

The latter 2 being the reason for me to raise this with Nick

I have not downloaded the packs since the release of the program but doubt anything has changed as Nick has not indicated any fixes for these downloads.
