Exporting MOV. with Alpha Channel

Post by rocket »

I am a new user to VSU 2019 and I am trying to figure out if the exported MOV. with Alpha Channel videos are supposed to work in other applications or editing platforms. I am a longtime Pinnacle Studio user and I bought VSU 2019 mainly because of the masking video and the exporting MOV. with Alpha Channel features of which are not available in PSU 22. After installing the most recent patch to VSU 2019 I could get the MOV. video to play in PSU 22 but there was no apparent Alpha Channel but the same video in VSU 2019 did show Alpha Channel. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Hi rocket
And welcome to the forums
If Alpha Channels are not supported in PS 22 I don’t know how you expect Video Studio to fix that.
You should ask the problem on the Pinnacle Studio forums

Yes MOV. with Alpha Channels are supported on PS 22. I download Alpha Channel videos from Digital Juice all the time for use in PS 22. The MOV. Alpha Channel videos created in VS 2019 will not even play in Quick Time Player or Windows Media player. The VS 2019 MOV. files are a format not recognized by Handbrake or AVS video Converter. With that in mind, it begs the question as to if I am doing something wrong or if the VS MOV. container was designed to play only in VS 2019 ? MidiaInfo shows the VS MOV. Format to be CinForm; Codex ID: CFHD where as other MOV. Alpha Channel videos to be either Codex: rle or png.

Hi rocket
Sorry I misunderstood the problem, yes I can render to Mov Alpha but using on any media just does not play.
Have you reported this to Corel Support?

Post Updated

I have brought the attention of this post to Corel, they are now investigating this problem.

Thank you Trevor for your time and efforts in this regard. It is a great feature even if it can only be used in VS and it works well for me in VS. Some day maybe Corel will add it to Pinnacle Studio.
