VS 2019 SP2 not finishing install

Hey y'all, I just got a download to update to VS 2019 to SP2, the program downloaded the SP2 to a folder on my desktop, but when I try to install it the installer gets to about 99% and just stops.

Tried it 3 times now

All antivirus is turned off

Plenty of power and disk space.

any ideas??

What is the version number of VS2019 you have installed, current version is 22.2.0.396

I chose the option to re-install the entire program
I downloaded the installation files again which gave me the current program

Once installed there is no need to download the service pack as its included with the programs installation file.

I think I'm going to try this like you did, I finally did get sp2 installed today but the program seems to be running very slowly (slow loading libraries and so forth). I wonder if it's because I still have 2018 installed?


To get it to finally work, I let the installer on the sp2 run all night, it never finished. So I tried it one last time today and it stopped in the same place again, so I got frustrated and rebooted my PC while it was still on my screen and it finally gave me an error, it said something about "installer cannot continue because of NewBlueFX blah blah blah, please close the installer and reboot your PC, try to run the installer again".

So I did, it finally finished after 20 minutes of installing.

The program ran very slowly the first time I started it though, but everything "seems" to be working correctly so far BUT, I think I'm going to try the entire reinstall.

As of now I have version 22.2.0.396, so I guess it worked, something just doesn't seem right though. I'm going to try a reinstall.

The first startup after an update (or new version) is always incredibly slow. This is because a number of the program's databases have to be rebuilt, and this takes time -- several minutes. So please don't base your dissatisfaction on the first startup time as all of us experienced that. Subsequent startups will be faster, and faster still if the computer has not been rebooted since the last time you closed VS.

Oh, well then I will give it some time, yeah the first couple of times it was still slow BUT loaded faster. I just tried it again as I have to put together a bunch of slideshows I made yesterday with some video/audio sprinkled in between, so I will give it a try for today and see how it goes!!

I reached the same point as in the original post - but knowing Corel of old I just waited , after about 10 minutes it was still there so I went off made a cup of coffee did a couple of little jobs and when I returned after about 30 minutes the window had closed and when I opened Videostudio all appeared well and the version number had been updated

It seems to get there eventually

Had the same concern. The update took what seemed like forever. The first load of VS 2019 was also long. Made me think, what did I just do. Glad to say it is definitely faster loading the second try. Worth the upgrade on that alone.
