iphone video convert to work in vs2018

Post by sunshine »

Hello

I am always having problems with Corel.

Video from apple iphone can transfer into corel but no sound. I read a bunch on here about Quicktime Essential etc. and have tried that with no luck. I have windows 10. It actually said that some files are part of another program and if I want to restore back into Quicktime. I did not as I don't know where those files are or what program. However, I put the video back in and nothing changed. So I uninstalled that.

I also tried VLC Media and converted and Handbrake. Now I can get it to play after trying different ways to save but the person talking in it is now rather large fat appearing stretched out. Why did that happen. '

So here is the video properties:
size: 272 mb
Lenght 4:54
frame wideth: 1920
Frame height 1088
date rate 7601 kbps
total bitrate: 7704 kbps
frame rate: 30
audio:
bit rate: 102 kbps
channels 1 (mono)
audio sample rate: 44.100 kHz
Item type: Quick Time Movie

Any suggestions on how to get it to play normal in corel to edit?
Should I use vlc and if so what I am choosing to change it to:
Should I use Handbrake and if so what I am choosing to change it to?

If I need to reinstall quicktime, will it work on Windows 10 and when it says that some files are being used by other programs should I say to put them into quicktime? That part I don't know. Then if that all works with Quick then what am I to do next? Just put my video into Corel or something else first?

Thank you so much in advance.

Several items to clear up.
1. is that the properties list of the clip which is handbraked/stretched, or the original file? If not the original file, can you provide the properties of the clip as it was recorded by the iphone?
2. When recording with the iphone, did you hold it in portrait (ie short side up) or landscape (long side up)?
And then . . a theory: you may be trying to present a 9:16 aspect clip in a 16:9 window - ie stretch everything sideways.
3. in video studio, how have you selected the clip in the preview window? In the VS user workspace, below the preview window there is a small rectangular box with diagonally opposed arrows: click that and see the ways you can present the TL clip on screen. 16:9 is the default, but can be changed.
4. select your clip, then look at the preview presentation list that appears when clicking on the arrow box: try the phone icon (4th in the list, after 16:9, 4:3 and the web symbol), which is actually 9:16. Does this change your stretched body image to a normal appearance?

That's the property list of the iPhone file.

It's QuickTime. If it was Handbroken, it would have been an MP4.

iPhone video is problematic. I think HEVC works, but H.264 doesn't. Maybe I have that backwards, but I think that's right, last time I checked - if the HEVC didn't work I wouldn't care, since I'd never record in that format for editing, anyways; although some video modes on the iPhone force HEVC (i.e. high framerate, which I do a lot of for sports)… so that may have been the catalyst for my problems. You may need to install Apple QuickTime to use them. At least in VS 2018, that worked, but I generally am not fine with installing software that long out of support on a production, internet connected machine... So, I ended up skipping out upgrading my iPhone and moving to the Galaxy Note 9, instead. That device records "standard" H.264/HEVC, so I don't have CODEC issues with the files in anything.

I had this issue in multiple NLEs (VideoStudio, PowerDirector, VEGAS Pro and Movie Studio, etc.) with iPhone files. Installing QuickTime is the only fix available, unless some alternative CODEC pack (QT Alternatives, etc.) can also add support to the system.

Otherwise, you're going to have to transcode everything (Handbrake, etc.), but I found Handbrake made the video look... odd. So, it wasn't a solution for me, personally.

I tried everything mentioned with no go. It does play in VLC but doesn't convert correctly. Also Quicktime will not work as it brings up a blank page to run it so that is a no go. I have it on my computer but it will not run properly. Handbrake did not work. Very very frustrating. So basically this editing program is junk for all those that use iphones which is more than half of the population. Great. I think that it should be a fix for this as it is problamatic.
