This really is a mystery. I saw your original post earlier this morning but have seen no reply since then until your second post. Pretty obviously there had been a post by BJC to trigger that automatic email, but I can only assume BJC deleted it -- though I don't think users can delete their messages; only delete the content but not the message itself.

I've also checked the Admin and Moderator logs but there is no indication that anyone else intervened to delete a reply from BJC. BJC's last recorded msg was on Friday 8 March but on another topic. We might just have to wait to see if BJC comes back to this topic...

I sent another post because that disappeared after I submitted it.Glad to say the background issue has resolved itself, the background option appeared after the 3rd time of booting up.

Yes I did reply , then realised I had misread the original post and my reply was not correct so I deleted it.

I have always been able to delete my posts Ken Berry , surely all users can delete their own posts completely , just that the system sends the e-mail when the post is made and cannot retract it when deleted.

I believe the deletion would be recorded in the Users log since I am neither Admin or Moderator

don't all users have these options , the 'x' deletes the whole post , or am I somehow special

Well, I've learnt something... My statement about deletion was based on quite a few incidents over the years where some users complained that they could not delete a post. They said they could edit out words in a post, but not the whole post. Instead, they deleted all the words and left a post which simply said "Deleted" (or something similar). And I simply can't remember whether I had ever tried to delete any of my own posts back in the days before I gained Site Admin status which certainly gave me wide powers to delete...

OK, worked it out, it would appear that the delete button is only available when your post is the last one added

Ah yes that does seem to be the case. It has vanished from my previous post now.
