I will try to navigate my way through to figure out how to do this. Being a brand new PSP user, it is all a bit overwhelming. I am still figuring out where all the tools are and what each of them do.
Learning new programmes at my age is not as easy as it once was. I really appreciate the assist. I still haven't heard from Corel! Not very impressed with their "help" chat or follow up. Thank God for this forum and the knowledgeable folks here.
I'll be back if I have any other questions. Sadly, I think I likely will but will try to be more concise when I describe the problem.

Whatever you do, if you use a feature, put it up on your main toolbar. For example, I have "Resize Canvas" and "Recent Files" up there. You select View > Customize... and from each menu drag what you use to the Toolbar. As an additional labor-saving strategem you can drag PSP's shortcut to the Start menu in Win 7. Win 10 has those squares. I avoid Win-10, but this year I'll be forced to transition.
Anyway, good luck!
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

That worked like a charm! Thank you a thousand times for that!!!
Once I figured out that you are supposed to use the little screen with arrows (under the word "Placement" rather than the numerical values on the right (which makes the image disappear altogether by the way) ... all was good!
I have wasted an entire week trying to conquer this problem. You have no idea how happy I am that I finally have a way to move forward! BIG sigh of relief.
My next question is ... can I make an icon that I can put beside the "Resize" button so that I can easily change the Canvas Size that is currently listed under "Image"? I know it's asking a lot ... but it would really help save some time.
The attachment Canvas-Size.PNG is no longer available

This is the screen I am talking about:
As I mentioned in an earlier post, you can make a new button by going to View > Customize... and from each menu drag what you use to the Toolbar. My own looks like this:
