OMG! VS 2018 Crashes ALL THE TIME!

Post by hmeader »

Argh! What is UP? VS 2018 locks up while doing whatever when I'm editing a photo pr video, or asking it to play a clip in edit. Just freezes, thinks for awhile, then either loosens up again or disappears.

Then we have the Windows Application Log errors on vstudio.exe either for ntdll.dll, d3d9.dll, or the NewBluePIP vft...the NewBlue gets it almost every time!

I've gotten to the point I usually only have Outlook client and maybe one page on Chrome open, to minimize any interference. It's done this ever since I got it in oct 2018. I'm on version 21.4.0.165, and have reinstalled it once already. I'm not that heavy of a user I don't think (being a fair newbie) and it's making me crazy!

I read that VS only uses the Intel onboard video driver? I have an Nvidia GEForce 960M as well. i7-6700HQ with 16GB RAM, you'd think that'd be enough.

What is UP with this? I have opened a ticket with Corel Support, but, having been in IT for years in the past, have no confidence. More confidence in peer assistance.

Is 2019 ANY more stable that this one? Did I read it now uses the Nvidia? Think this would help with the d3d9.dll part? Urgh.... :x

Thanks

There is something wrong with your Operating System. VS2018 is absolutely stable for me - and I am using a hacked intelgpu workaround for Windows 7 on CoffeeLake that is technically not supported. But aside from em, if you browse these forums you will not find a lot of people with your problem. Go back to the beginning. Is your Windows patched? Antivirus issues? Try to boot your computer with a clean start using the msconfig utility to eliminate conficts. Is your VS2018 up to date? Something is wrong. And no - do not try 2019 - it is pretty much a beta version released to the public. 2018 works great for most people.

If it's only VS2018 that's having problems running on your computer, then I'd suggest doing a complete uninstall of VS2018 including running the cleanup tool mentioned in this forum followed by a fresh reinstallation.

IMHO you should ensure VS2018 runs properly on your system before jumping into the VS2019 quagmire until SP1 is release.

I had a similar problem with 2018. I removed, cleaned up with tool, then built a new administrator account (on W7) and did the install from there. Been fine ever since.
