Will my desktop run VS 19

Post by wjmund »

Been away for awhile, my computer CPU is i5-8500 @ 3.00Ghz...9MB Cache,... Ram = 8GB, total graphics memory = 4864, dedicated = 1024. I want to render 4k from Lumix FZ300 camera. Any suggestions please?

Just a word, too, about version numbers. You refer to VS 19. Version 19 was really VS X9 (Roman X for 10 plus 9). If you are referring to VS 2019 which was only recently released, in the strict numeral sequence, it is version 22 but should be referred to as VS 2019. Getting the version number right will help prevent confusion when you ask a question about one version but use an incorrect version number which suggests you are referring to another version... :?

Thanks Ken. If i read tletter's reply correctly, it sounds like i need intel core i7 for a 4k codec. It says i5 will just do AVCHD. Did i read it right? I would be interested in version 2018 or older.

4K is indeed pretty demanding of computer resources. I happen to have an i7 for my editing, so I can't really comment on less "powerful" CPUs. However, looking at your computer specs, I would have thought that if you used SmartProxy with 4K footage, it would probably still work OK. Hopefully other users who have Core i5 CPUs will be able to comment on this.

The other thing you need to take into account is that some Core i5 CPUs are in fact faster or better than some Core i7s. It depends on what hyperthreading is carried out by each on their cores. But I don't know enough to be able to recognize which CPU is which in this category...
