Using Windows/10 copy/paste to the clipboard in PSP X2019 is slow.
But Control + Shift + C is fast.
This is the PSP key combination for Copy Merged layers. My source does not have multiple layers (my destination does), but this is *so* much faster than Control + C.

Re: Fast Copy
I'm not sure what you mean. I don't see a Paste to the Clipboard option in PSP 2019. On the other hand, when in PSP I can use the Copy command and it copies instantaneously, and is obviously being saved to the clipboard for further action, such as then pasting it on another image as a layer or pasting into the workspace as a new image.jdkinne wrote:Using Windows/10 copy/paste to the clipboard in PSP X2019 is slow.
This key combination makes a copy of all layers of a layered image and copies them merged, while the Copy combination only copies the layer that is highlighted in the Layers palette. If your source (i.e., the image you are making a copy of) doesn't have multiple layers as you stated, then you should be getting the same image copy using the Control+Shift+C combination as you would get using the Control+C combination. Both are equally fast for me in PSP 2019, although the former needs an extra key held down.jdkinne wrote:But Control + Shift + C is fast.

In my case, I do most of my work in PSP with the mouse, so taking my hand off of the mouse to use keystrokes to achieve something and then having to put it back on the mouse is a time and movement waster. So I actually have the Copy, Copy Merged, Paste as New Image and Paste as New Layer commands as buttons on my toolbar. That way I can keep my hand on the mouse and simply move the pointer to each button as needed without the distraction of leaving the mouse for the keyboard, hitting the keys and then having to return to the mouse for further work.
And actually, my Paste as New Layer button is actually a boundscript so that when the layer is pasted on another image the Mover tools is also automatically selected, because more often than not I want to be able to move that new layer around on the image that I have pasted it on to.

Re: Fast Copy
Control + C copy in PSP X9 is slow: 10 - 15 seconds to complete, on my rather beefy 16GB Windows/10 machine. I don't know why - but have seen lots of advice(such as removing Skype). None of makes sense.
But if I use Control + Shift + C, anecdotally, it seems instantaneous. A moment later Control + C is as slow as normal.
I am copying from one image in the PSP Edit space to another. Unfortunately I use selection tools and don't want to copy the whole image. Control + C copies the selection while Control + Shift + C copies the whole image.

Re: Fast Copy
Copy merged should not copy the whole image if you only have a selection. It'll copy all visible merged data in that selection but it'll still be the small selection. I verified this with freeclipboardviewer which shows me a preview of the bitmap version of anything PSP copies to the clipboard. There is no difference in what gets copied if I use CTRL+ C or CTRL+SHIFT+C.
For me copy merged is only slightly slower than regular copy Which makes sense. PSP does copy 9 different versions of the image to the clipboard (one for each major file version for backwards compatibility).
So my first thought is, is it actually taking 10-15 seconds to copy the image? Or is it taking 10-15 second to become responsive again? I recommend a clipboard viewer of some kind. Since Windows no longer provides one I like this one - http://www.freeclipboardviewer.com/
You don't have to install it, just download it and run it. Then run a few copy tests. Does the clipboard viewer get populated immediately? Or does it only populate after PSP has become useable again?

Re: Fast Copy
I downloaded the clipboard viewer (neat!). The copy is taking 15 or so seconds, then the image appears in the viewer and the Windows Hourglass becomes a pointer.
However, performance is erratic. It seems to get slower the longer I use PSP.

Re: Fast Copy
I have both the 64-bit version and the 32-bit version on my 16GB Win/10 system. Today I tried the 32 bit version to see if it might copy faster. It does not. It takes a bit longer, may 25 seconds instead of 20.
I also tried copying the same photo with Adobe Photoshop elements. the copy is about instantaneous.
Anecdotally, Ctl-Shf-C is much faster than copying with just Shf-C. But it is not consistent on my machine: sometime when there is a selection it copies just the selection, other times it copies the whole image. I understand what LeviFiction posted above, but this is my experience.

Re: Fast Copy
Have you contacted Corel support directly? As this seems to be something specific with your system we can only assume that it's going to take specialized help. You can always try doing a factory refresh. (Close PSP, hold SHIFT and reopend PSP) or try uninstalling and reinstalling. But if those don't work you're going to need to contact support.
EDIT: Really quick, these two questions should be completely irrelevant to your problem.
1) Do you use manage mode at all to track images?
2) Does turning off auto-save do anything at all? (It shouldn't, just a really stupid idea popped into my head and I had to ask) File -> Preferences -> Autosave settings

Re: Fast Copy
I do the first pass of images in Corel AfterShot making adjustments for exposure, and sometimes I make a few other adjustments. Then I ctrl-E to send to Corel PSP 2019 Ultimate. I end up with may 10-15 images open in the PSP Edit window. I have 16GB real memory on the Win/10 machine. I rarely use the Manage window of PSP. The copy process is S-L-O-W.
Turning off Auto-save did not change the situation.
I tried Corel Tech Support. They could not help. I was hoping to find someone who had more expertise here!

Re: Fast Copy
And...
ctrl-Shft-C is lightning fast (tonight!). However, I am making selections on the source photo instead of copying the whole thing. I set feather to 200 pixels, and use the ellipse tool to make a selection then copy the selection.
Ctrl-C slowly copies just the selection, with the feathering I wanted so I can blend the copy into the background.
Ctrl-Shft-C quickly copies a rectangle containing the selection with no feathering.
So I am stuck with a slow Corel copy.
